Year in Review

Two meaningful experiences from my freshman year included earning my 4.0 gpa and participating in GES, which led me to make a lot of new friends. Because of GES, I got the opportunity to live with and meet a lot of people like me. The majority of my closest friends, I met because of GES. THrough my high school years, I struggled with realizing I was smart enough. My 4.0 gpa showed me that I could be successful in whatever major I chose.

Update(5/31/2017)- First semester of sophomore year, I had a very challenging semester and lost the 4.0. However, I studied very hard and met my goals from the beginning of the semester. I was proud of how hard I worked and ability to strive towards those new goals. After a hard semester, I found a breathe of fresh air in a co-op at Cooper Tires. This experience developed me as a person in the Corporate World and I am very proud of everything that I learned at Cooper.

G.O.A.L.S.

[ “G.O.A.L.S.” is a place where students write about how their planned, current, and future activities may fit into the Honors & Scholars G.O.A.L.S.: Global Awareness, Original Inquiry, Academic Enrichment, Leadership Development, and Service Engagement. For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. Delete these instructions and add your own post.

Global Awareness: Students cultivate and develop their appreciation for diversity and each individual’s unique differences. For example, consider course work, study abroad, involvement in cultural organizations or activities, etc .
Original Inquiry: Honors & Scholars students understand the research process by engaging in experiences ranging from in-class scholarly endeavors to creative inquiry projects to independent experiences with top researchers across campus and in the global community. For example, consider research, creative productions or performances, advanced course work, etc.
Academic Enrichment: Honors & Scholars students pursue academic excellence through rigorous curricular experiences beyond the university norm both in and out of the classroom.
Leadership Development: Honors & Scholars students develop leadership skills that can be demonstrated in the classroom, in the community, in their co-curricular activities, and in their future roles in society.
Service Engagement: Honors & Scholars students commit to service to the community.]

Career

Cooper Tires- Findlay, OH

At Cooper, I was in charge of designing and Monitoring the installation of equipment parts to repair and update machinery in the Tire Assembly and Material Prep rooms. I also collaborated with Process and Mechanical Engineers to increase safety and productivity within the plant. Finally, I worked with Contractors to remove old equipment and install brand new equipment. Through this process, I learned how to work with and manage many different people. I also developed an immense knowledge into the design process and fast paced style of a plant.

Eaton Corporation-Electrical Sector- Pittsburgh, PA

I am 3 weeks into my summer internship with Eaton. So far, I am learning a new company’s design process. I am also in charge of a long term project including a design concept for a new Meter. I am excited to bring the device go from an idea to product ready for production.

Scholars Presentation

The Scholars Presentation is my Green Engineering Scholars project for my first year engineering seminar. The presentation details the environmental and economical impacts of a new growing industry: underwater wind turbines. Within this project, I learned valuable ideas like how quickly humans are going to use up the fossil fuel reserves, and how useful the vast ocean and its power can be to solving this problem. Underwater wind turbines are very environmentally friendly when it comes to this aspect, however they can also be harmful to the surrounding ocean habitats. On top of learning important facts about our energy use and how its affecting the earth, I learned important life skills such as working quickly and efficiently within a small group, presentation etiquette, and research techniques.

Update (5/31/2017)- Over the last year, I have co-op’d with two different companies. Both companies solidified my decision to become a mechanical engineer. I have loved everything that I have been working on. I’ve also developed many professional and technical skills that I would not have in the classroom. Unfortunately, I do not have any files from the experiences as the majority of what I worked on was confidential.

About Me

eportfolio2I am currently an engineering student at The Ohio State University. I have not yet decided on a specific field of engineering that i would like to pursue, but I am heavily leaning towards mechanical or integrated systems engineering. As a student, I tend to be a very dedicated learner, not stopping until i have achieved the goals I set in the beginning of classes. In high school, I set a goal to be sitting on stage at graduation (meaning top 10 in the class). I worked my way up the class rank and onto stage for the most memorable day of my life thus far. While excelling in my studies, I managed to hold down a part-time job as a cashier and a starting varsity position on my high school’s softball team. At university, I am working as an office assistant, as an active member of the formula buckeye team, and hopefully ending my first year with a 3.7 gpa. In the future, I hope to graduate from Ohio State with an engineering degree and a full-time job offer from a company I love.

Update (5/31/2017)- I decided to study Mechanical Engineering. I ended my freshman year with a 4.0 gpa, so I was very pleased that I fulfilled my goals. I co-op my spring semester of sophomore year with Cooper Tires. It was a very eye-opening experience, solidifying my decision to be a mechanical engineer. I am currently interning with Eaton in their PCD Electronics division for the summer. So far, I have enjoyed myself and learned an immense amount about power, meters, and relays. I also was accepted into my major following my autumn semester of sophomore year.
