Module 7 Post

This module was probably the best of all the others. I found it to be useful and actually something that I will take with me at the end of this course. Reading though the course I found that there is an app called Forest: Stay Focused. The app is beneficial and entertaining. If you struggle with keeping you phone down will studying, then this app it for you. Not only does it put your phone on silent but if you switch to another app the tree that you were growing in the app dies. The point of the app is you try to grow a forest as long as you can. That is as long as you have your phone down you forest continues to grow. This was not only thing that I found useful. Focus Keeper is also a great tool for keeping yourself focused on you studies. I find myself, probably like many others, never taking a break during my study time. The app is meant to help you manage your time while studying. It takes your study time in intervals. You can set it how you want but the standard is twenty-five minute sessions with five minute breaks. Overall the module is great when it comes to diminishing distractions.

Learning online is a blessing and a curse. There is a lot posted on the internet. Usually, it is also extremely hard to identify if it is correct. Although, there are guidelines that you can use in order to check for correctness. For instance, let’s say you are writing a research paper and you need to gather some information for some concluding statements. It is best to start by separating search from research.  To put it further, the two differ. Searching is a process of looking for information on a certain topic. This information can be broad, and not very accurate. What is important to understand is that searching for a topic doesn’t necessarily mean that the quality of information you find is accurate. Reaching is quite different as you can imagine. Reaching is the process of searching for quality information that has correctness. The research tradition encompasses why and how we cite our sources, what sources are considered “primary” versus “secondary,” what types and sources of information are considered more reliable, trustworthy or accurate, and many other things. When researching more effort is need. When looking for any type quote make sure you can understand where it came from and if it is truthful.

Module 4 Post

As a college student in the digital age, I think it imperative that we students try to use every resource available to us. I know from personal experience that there are many tools that can be utilized. There is a multitude of things on the internet that can benefit anyone who is struggling. In fact, module 4 suggest some of them. Its says if you are having trouble remembering or memorizing to use websites such as memeroize.com.  Memeroize.com allows users to create learning material for themselves and others. Users can create, learn, and share pages with interactive learning modes, such as flashcard, matching, or multiple choice. Not only does the module suggest what you should use be also how to use it. Using the Information Processing Model can be a useful guide for understanding how memory works. You have the sensory memory which is everything that you are observing within a relatively short time. Next is the working memory. When you process something using the sensory you brain either forgets or pays attention to it. This is then stored in your working memory. Lastly, are your long term memory. After you have processed something for a long period of time you memory keeps that information

Module 2: Communicating and Collaborating

Hello and thank you for reading my post! As the saying goes, “communication is key”. Simply put, in this day and age, you can’t get far without obtaining such skills. Module two is very effective in showing how to acquire these skills. For those who may not know, netiquette is the correct or acceptable way of communicating on the Internet. In personal communication, tonality, body language, and facial expression are features we use to understand how a conversation is going. Although online spaces are different. These items are useless in identifying how we are effectively communicating. Thus, when communicating online remember ABP. Always be professional! Being clear and concise is always the first step. In regards to an email, formal introductions and concluding statements are useful tools for communication online. Always include your name, a greeting, and the reasoning for your email. Also, make use of punctuation and spelling skills. Never use acronyms or abbreviations for simple phrases. This always for your reader to understand that you are serious about what you are emailing them for. Lastly and also what’s important to note, is that the internet is seemingly going to last forever. So make sure you don’t post or send anything you wouldn’t want your mother to read.
