Global Awareness: Throughout high school I advanced my global awareness through not only travel, but also coursework. I took Global Studies (focus on Asia and Africa), European History, and German. These classes helped me to understand the cultures of other parts of the world. During college, I plan to add to my global awareness again through classes. I am considering a minor in German or History. Outside of the classroom, I would like to study abroad. Many study abroad programs interest me. The engineering trips to Greece and Italy both seem interesting, but I am still looking into other options. After college, I plan to continue to travel to enrich my global awareness.

Service Engagement: During high school, I was involved in a variety of service opportunities. Through the school, I was a part of both the Lunch Buddies and Chem Buddies programs. Lunch Buddies went to the elementary schools once a week to eat lunch with students who may be having a hard time at school or home. Chem Buddies did presentations at the elementary and middle schools about chemistry to try to get students excited about and involved in science. Through cross country, I volunteered at my team’s elementary and middle school running camp over the summer each year of high school. We taught the campers how to stretch, pace yourself, and use good running form. Additionally, I was part of the environmental club. Once a week we would go around the school and collect and take out the recycling bins in classrooms. During college, I would like to continue volunteering through a variety of organizations. Green Engineering Scholars helps me achieve that by providing many opportunities to get involved. I also plan to volunteer with the Women in Engineering Club.]
