American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA)
Sarah Anderson, Bethany Frick, Kaetlyn Culter, Elizabeth Mance, Ashley Stojkov and Carmen DiGiovine presented at the AOTA 2020 Virtual Conference Series on June 19th, 2020.  The Tech Lab workshop, “Emerging Technologies: Increasing Access to Public Transportation via a Smartphone Navigation Training Program”, provided an overview and demonstration of the WayFinder System and Training Program that was developed as part of the SmartColumbus [https://smart.columbus.gov] Mobility Assistance for People with Cognitive Disabilities [https://u.osu.edu/smartcbus/].  The presentation session number was Tech Lab 303B, and the recorded live webinar can be reached on the 2020 Virtual Conference Series page on the AOTA website [https://www.aota.org/Conference-Events/virtual-conference-2020.aspx].
International Seating Symposium (ISS)
Theresa Berner, Carmen DiGiovine, Julie Faieta, and Tina Roesler presented at the International Seating Symposium 2020 in Vancouver, BC.  Their workshop, “Manual Wheelchair Propulsion: An update on the literature, and the application in clinical practice”, will provide an update on the manual wheelchair propulsion literature since 2015.  This is a follow-up to the workshop they gave in 2014. In addition to the literature update, we also provided examples of how to use this information in clinical practice.  The presentation was scheduled for 11:30 AM on March 4, 2020.http://seatingsymposium.com
Ohio Association of Gerontology and Education (OAGE)
Carmen DiGiovine presented at the Ohio Association of Gerontology and Education at Ohio Univerisity, Athens, OH. He was be part of a panel discussing technology for older adults. He provided an overview of SmartColumbus [https://smart.columbus.gov] with a focus on the Mobility Assistance for People with Cognitive Disabilities (MAPCD) Project [https://u.osu.edu/smartcbus/].  The presentation was scheduled for Friday, April 3 in the Baker Center.http://oage.org

Huge congratulations to our Smart Columbus Wayfinder Team Member, Sarah Anderson, on her Virtual Reality Bus Route presentation and being one of the 2019 Tech Hub Student Project Grant winners.

 

 

 

 

During the first week of November this year, Jack Reifenberg presented at the University of Sao Paulo International Symposium on Undergraduate Research (SIICUSP) in Sao Paulo, Brazil. I was presenting a project looking at the use of assistive technology (iPads) for supplementing language development in children who are deaf/hard of hearing. This was part of a research fellowship I did at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.

The RST team is invested in both developing research and sharing our discoveries and creations. Our students and faculty have been able to share there work at both national and international conferences to include the American Occupational Therapy Association annual conference, the International Seating Symposium, and the Rehabilitation Engineering Society of North America.
