Why Cardio?

Incentives of the Heart

The above link is to an essay I wrote my senior year of high school.  It chronicles my contemplation of careers, as well as my conclusion to pursue cardiothoracic surgery.  No, I didn’t get a perfect score, but I’ve never been more proud of an essay assignment; it truly captures why I want to work towards a career in cardio.

About Me

IMG_0371 Hello!  My name is Madison Rout.  I’m from Chillicothe, the first (and third) capital of Ohio.  This past Spring, I graduated from Unioto High School ranking 8th in my class of around 150 students.

I am currently a first year biology/pre-med major at OSU.  While at Ohio State, I would love to get involved in internships, research, or maybe even studying abroad.

During high school I was active in many programs.  Some of these include 4-H, Key Club, NHS, and FCS.  These programs have helped me become the leader and person I am today.  This is why I would most definitely be interested in joining organizations with similar standards and visions during my college years.

My long term goal at the Ohio State University is to get the education needed to be a cardiothoracic surgeon.  It was my Junior year of high school, when taking Anatomy, that I knew I wanted a career in cardio.  I fell in love with the heart.  So, yeah, I know my dreams may be big, and it certainly won’t be an easy path to take, but as a TV character, Barney Stinson, from one of my favorite sitcoms often says…”Challenge accepted.”
