Brick Wall Painting

this is just an update on my brick wall I started, I’m hoping to have it finished by today or at least tomorrow.

  1. Kaylee,
Looking forward to seeing the installation views of your wall at UAS! The black strip on the base of the wall was a surprise and helped join the works as well as transform the given wall not only into a different wall but a wall “in progress.” The simple fact of not finishing the right hand edge of the strip as it meets the stone base as well the taped outlet makes the wall feel “in progress” or open to your works that play with the lines, incidental marks and traces that you eloquently spoke about remaining after all is done. The purple shadow played beautifully with the deep cavity space in the upper right corner of the wall. The flat brick painting and the dimensional brick painting also formed a bookend. (What would this hanging look like in a space that includes brick?) I may have encouraged hanging one of the paintings (leaf?) a few inches higher to pull the salon hanging from ceiling to floor and off of the conventional center line a little bit more. I would like you to have the opportunity to have a full week to install a suite of paintings – to see if you discover even more between the work and the space. It would be nice to see you be able to make work “of the space” to be incorporated into the series. All of this is to say, you have opened the door to a world of options through your observations of those things that mark our spaces, worlds and moments.
