G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness: Within my first few years here at OSU, my goal is to find the proper channels to use in order to gain a better understanding of global issues. Furthermore, I want to discover the best source for me to stay up to date with what is going on in the world socially, politically, and economically. Taking this goal a step farther, I’d maybe like to create some of these channels and sources of information for others by the time I graduate.
Original Inquiry: This year, I’d like to research the structure of the political system in this country through textual methods as well as field methods. However by the time graduation rolls around, I hope that I have enough basic knowledge of the political system and be comfortable enough going into the field to conduct research on the effects of government policies and legislation within this community and beyond.
Academic Enrichment: I have always been one to challenge myself within the classroom and beyond. In my time here at Ohio State, nothing is going to change in that respect. My first year here, I’m going to be challenged with new and different course work from what I had in high school however, by the time I graduate, I hope to be accepted into law school and be on the way to pursuing a successful career in the future.
Leadership Development: A leadership experience that I hope to pursue is to find others that value leadership and its importance in the same way that I do. I hope to find a friend group that wants to be leaders in the community. By the time my four years here at The Ohio State University are over, I hope to put the leadership skills that I’ve developed to use within the community and within my profession.
Service Engagement: In my first years of college, one of my biggest goals is to get involved with an anthropological or social issue within the community and put the social and political skills that I am developing into helping better the issue. Most significantly, after I graduate I hope to put my leadership skills and knowledge to work in the Global South in an effort to tackle some of the most daunting and substancial issues of poverty in the world.

Career

About Me

My Name is Kristen Romano and I’m from Long Beach, New York. Born and raised in Western New York and moving to Long Island at the age of 15 to pursue my goals of competing at the US Olympic Swimming Team Trials in the summer of 2016, I have seen first hand the effectiveness that determination and faith can have in helping you achieve your goals. Being the youngest member of my family, I always felt that I had to distinguish myself in some way and for that reason, I also hold academic and athletic achievement in very high esteem and believe that they are a large factor in establishing oneself in the community and beyond. In my time here at Ohio State, I hope to use all of these  values and beliefs to not only attain an undergraduate (and perhaps graduate) degree in the future, but also to create memories that will last a lifetime.

Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio.
