Helix/BBB

I’m always looking for new leadership opportunities. It’s a good idea to find an honor society or a similar organization to help you focus your ideas into a group that has the tangible resources to make them real. I have interviewed for Helix/Tri-Beta and successfully been admitted into the society! I can’t wait to see what kinds of great things we accomplish together.

Barrett House Study Session

I’ve always believed that people do their best work together. That includes studying! In the days leading up to a big chemistry midterm, the Biological Sciences Scholars that live in Barrett House got together for a big study session in the Barrett Lobby. It’s always great to do good work together, and give everyone a better score in the process!

Voter Registration

For a long time, I’ve been passionate about political activism. There is never a reason to not be involved in the government that administrates everything in your life. Upon my arrival to Ohio State, I knew immediately that I wanted to focus my energy outside of class into participating in the democratic process. In my first few weeks, I donated my time to the Ohio State College Democrats and the Ohio Democratic Party. Every Sunday, and at some points during the week, I take a few hours to stand on campus with voter registration forms and get people out to vote. It is an extremely enriching experience to do your civic duty and spread the word about voting!

G.O.A.L.S.

I chose to be a Biological Sciences Scholar because I believe that great minds only do their best work when they are working in a team with others. I am always called to programs with a higher standard of learning and I wholeheartedly believe that the Biological Sciences Scholar program has provided that environment. Programs like this help rocket you towards leadership roles. I believe that being a leader is an absolute must for those who wish to succeed in life. As a leader, you have to always be looking for opportunities to learn from the people who help you, so you can know how to better serve their needs. I identify with a single mission statement: “To take charge, break through norms of what has to be, and create the world we all really want”.

Dennis & Sara Trachsel Award

As a high school student, I performed well enough to be the final candidate to recieve the Dennis & Sara Trachsel Award, a $40,000 scholarship in the interest of advancing Marion, Ohio as a community and in the interest of helping bright students achieve their goals in higher education. Through this award, I have been given the unique opportunity to continue my education at The Ohio State University. Using this award, I will go forward and prove to my benefactors that they have made a sound investment in the field of Molecular Genetics.
