G.O.A.L.S Statement

As an Honors student at The Ohio State University, I strive for excellence and success. In order to attain this, I set goals for myself. One way I can do this is by analyzing what exactly are my “G.O.A.L.S.”

Global awareness: One way I plan to expand my global awareness is by taking a class that covers politics overseas. Although my major does not require such a class specifically, I find it necessary for one to be aware of the events that are happening around the world and how they start.

Original inquiry: Creating one’s own idea or project is important to personal and career growth. As a neuroscience major, it is vitally important to engage in research projects in order to develop an original mindset and create new ideas to share with the world around me. I plan to participate in scientific research while at tOSU in order to expand my intellectual capacity.

Academic enrichment: I chose my major in order to take a different and more challenging path to medical school in order to prepare myself for my future career. I know that this is a challenging path and in order to properly prepare myself, I plan to take rigorous courses. Such courses include class in both the health and non-health fields. Excellence and success are a high priority of mine and in order to achieve my goals, I must take classes than can challenge my intellect rather than to solely earn a high GPA.

Leadership development: Being a leader is especially important because as a leader I can share my thoughts and ideas with the people around me to promote their personal growth. Furthermore, being a leader in the community will enable me to help others who are less fortunate than myself and to give back to the community that has helped me grow as an individual both academically and mentally. In order to build my leadership skills, I plan to join clubs and organizations throughout college that can put me in a position to be a leader. This is vitally important to my career as well because as a possible physician, being able to guide others and achieve a certain outcome requires me to have the confidence and integrity of a leader.

Service engagement: Being a helping hand to others who have none is especially important. It builds character and promotes wellness within the community. I plan to join clubs that are specifically geared toward service as well as start service projects of my home. As a college student at tOSU, I essentially have two homes: Indiana and Ohio. It is of utmost importance to widen my engagement with the community both in Indiana as well as Ohio in order to reach as many people as I can. It is important to remember that not everyone is given the opportunities that I am given and it is my own personal goal to help others however necessary.

Having goals is what makes one a productive member of society. It promotes wellness, growth, and leadership. These qualities are vital to personal and career development.
