Hello all! So I decided to post here the research I’ve done so far for my mini golf project.
I started by thinking about what mini golf courses I liked, which were my favorites, and what made them different? This is a mini golf course that I loved playing through. I loved how the holes go beyond simply creating a unique terrain. They all follow a theme and you are able to interact with the course in various different ways. For example, one hole was divided into 2 levels (an upper level and a lower level), and the player had 3 different holes they could fall into leading to different locations on the lower level. This little bit of mystery added to the enjoyment of the course. It was further enjoyable because they triggered different sounds too.
Then I looked into one of the links on what I can do with plywood. Since my ART 2400 course had to shift to online midway through, I never really got into woodworking stuff. I’m rather new to it and unsure what I could do with the material honestly. I liked seeing the various practical things you could make with a single sheet of plywood. I was most intrigued by the Eames Chair specifically because of its curves and how the pieces fit together with only glue and a mallet.
The third source I looked at were the Goldberg Machines. They were fascinating to watch and very interesting. They look extremely complicated and like one wrong move in one moment would throw the whole thing off. And while it was very impressive to watch, I don’t think I could/would ever make anything like that. Simply thinking about the amount of planning, precise movements, time, and patience required creates a lot of anxiety. It is also extremely site specific and conditional on anyone in the area not touching anything. I think this mini golf project is meant to be interactive with many people, but to create this machine, would limit interactions to only once, one demonstration.
