Rose Table

This piece was simultaneously my favorite and hardest out of all the weekly art assignments. From the prompt, I took that I was supposed to repeat a image or drawing on a mundane object. I chose an old table I had for years. When I was younger, I painted it once with my friends because we were kids looking for something fun to do. Over the years, it became covered in paint from my artworks, so I took this opportunity to revive the table. I have many little painting stencils that I’ve collected over the years and many leftover paints, so I used those to make this piece. I tried to fit as many of the stenciled flower as I could.

I chose the rose stencil because roses are such an important thing to me and very much present in my art. I chose the color pink because I love that color and it is present in many articles of clothing, accessories, decoration, and the color of my bedroom wall. I purposefully added the rose flower on the table to emphasize how both roses and the color pink are present throughout my home. I couldn’t move the table to the room with the same colored walls nor could I really add many other flowers to the room. We are moving to a new house soon and are packing so moving the table seemed illogical.

The reason this was the hardest assignment is because I’ve been having more issues with motivation and inspiration. It’s very difficult for me to get up out of bed and be active enough to create the piece. Time has lost meaning as days blur together through repetition of meaningless actions. I think I created something beautiful which brightens the room the table is in and causes me to smile, but it was a struggle to create the piece.

Fun Side Note–I’ve shown the finished table to a few people and their first reaction was asking me if it was a pepperoni pizza. From the image I had sent them, the table looked like an oversized pepperoni pizza.
