About Me

My name is Bailey Rodoski, and I am a first year at The Ohio State University. I am from Canal Winchester, Ohio where I went to the local high school for all four years. I was in the marching band where I played the clarinet, and I even played a short solo during one of our competition shows. During high school, I got three short stories/poems published in a teen literature book called Flip the Page by Thurber House. I was accepted into the National Honors Society and was chosen as an alternative for Buckeye Girls State my junior year of high school. During my senior year, I received the Good Citizen Award from Daughters of the American Revolution and graduated as salutatorian. I care a lot about my academics, and I hope to keep up my academic goals in college.

I am in the engineering program at The Ohio State University. I am hoping to pursue a career in chemical engineering, so that is what I am planning to major in. College is a major step for me when it comes to reaching the goals I have for myself. I want to be able to do well for myself in the future and make life for myself and my family easier. I am also minoring in music because creating and playing music is a huge passion of mine. I play the clarinet in both the Athletic Band and the University Band here at OSU. In future semesters, I plan on taking some music theory classes and music history courses to better my understanding of how music is made as well as how it has influenced people around the world.

I have no job experience when it comes to engineering, but I plan to do internships and co-ops in order to get the experience that I need. I currently work in retail at Cracker Barrel, and the people skills that I am learning there are going to help in my future career by making it easier for me to talk to people and handle tougher situations. In my career, I want to help make the world a better and more sufficient place by taking the skills I will develop in the engineering program to come up with new ways to make a difference.

Finally, I am very passionate when it comes to my community and my identity. As part of the LGBTQ+ community, I have made it my goal to support others when they are also struggling with their own sexuality and gender. I want to be there for others as somebody they can talk to and be open about themselves with. I have joined LGBT groups on campus to help get myself more involved in the community. I also care about helping those around me in my community, and I have done some volunteering in the past. I was a volunteer at Pickerington Summer Playground for seven years, where I helped camp counselors with their groups of young children as they came in for day camp. I have also done a lot of volunteering with the National Honors Society in high school, doing activities such as helping in a daycare for Church X, being a cabin leader for the fifth grade Heartland trip, and mentoring students in the Canal Winchester middle school band.

I am using this E-portfolio to help develop myself as a person and further my own career goals. I hope to be able to make new connections with people and present the diverse amount of work that I will be completing in the future.
