G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness: While at Ohio State, I would love to participate in a study abroad program. Because I love the campus and university so much, it would be difficult to decide to go for a whole semester. However, spending the month of may overseas sounds like the perfect plan. This way, I can get to experience and understand another culture for more than a week, but not miss any of my time here in Columbus. Another aspect of understanding the world that I have already encountered is rooming with two Chinese students. Through everyday talk I am able to learn about China and how things work in their country. While I am not able to actually experience it, I do possess far more knowledge about China than I would have otherwise. Finally, taking classes at Ohio State is a great way to learn about how the world operates outside of the United States. I plan on taking several classes that look at the development of different economies around the world. The world is far too complicated and diverse to know everything about it, but attempting to know just a few can have a profound impact on the views and knowledge of a person.

Original Inquiry: As a Data Analytics major, I will have to take multiple business classes that work closely with companies in Columbus to give us real-world experiences. These classes will allow me to explore options and make decisions as if I were actually a part of the company. Also, I would like to partake in some form of research with a professor of Data Analytics at Ohio State. By doing this, I will be able to develop close relationships with the staff in my major, but also develop my skills in data analysis.

Academic Enrichment: Aside from taking Honors classes, which are already harder than the norm at Ohio State, it is important to challenge yourself and always strive to learn more. Ways that I envision doing that are to take addition seminars, such as a course on 9/11 I plan to take, and attending lectures given by leaders and professors from other universities when they come to Ohio State. This is a great way to create a network and develop connections. Many of my classes were chosen with my future in mind. I want to work in business and potentially get my MBA, but I didn’t want to be different and learn different skills. For me, Data Analytics provided that because I could take classes on business while also learning valuable skills in programming. The Psychology minor is meant to help develop my leadership abilities and work with people in future jobs. As far as GE classes, one in particular, International Studies 2500H, really excites me. The class studies how different economies have developed across the world. Since I’m taking the business track in Data Analytics, this class will help me understand diverse economies and multiple different aspects of business.

Leadership Development: One of my biggest goals while at Ohio State is to develop my leadership skills inside and outside of the classroom. I want to be the student that asks all the right questions and organizes study groups. I also plan on minoring in Psychology, specifically the decision-making aspect, to help aid in my leadership abilities. By doing this, I will be more prepared to understand why people do what they do, and in-turn be a better leader. Outside of the classroom, I want to join one or two clubs or fraternities and take a leadership position in those organizations.

Service Engagement: I am participating in BuckeyeTHON this year to help raise money for children with cancer. Cancer is something that has a profound impact on my life, with my mother and several other close family members having battles. I also anticipate going on one or two BUCK-I-SERV trips over my time at Ohio State. Helping the community has always been important to me and that will only continue at Ohio State. I know many fraternities focus on community service, and if I were to join one, I would certainly be heavily involved in service with them. Ohio State and Columbus as a city is going to do a lot for me over my four years here, the least I could do is give back some of my time.

About Me

Version 2

Hi, my name is John Parker Robson, and I go by Parker. After growing up in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia, my family moved to Ohio prior to my enrollment at Ohio State. While in Virginia I was involved in many different activities; including Shenandoah Valley Governor’s School, National Honor Society, soccer, and youth group. At the Governor’s School, which was a selective high school that top students attended, I engaged in research and data analytics, leading to my decision to major in data analytics. Returning to my home school of Wilson Memorial High School, I served as president of National Honor Society my senior year. On the soccer team at Wilson, I was a member of the varsity soccer team all four years I was eligible, while serving as captain my junior and senior year. Along with playing for my high school, I also played travel soccer. My team was highly successful and even won the Virginia State Cup, which was a tournament of all the best teams in Virginia. We competed all over the east coast from Orlando, Florida to Baltimore, Maryland. I was active in my youth group throughout my high school career and considered myself to be a leader of the group. Perhaps my proudest achievement was maintaining a 4.4 GPA throughout high school while challenging myself in and out of the classroom. Upon entering The Ohio State Honors program, I have plans to major in Data Analytics and minor in Psychology. I look forward to meeting new people, experiencing different ideas and cultures, and of course, attending a few games in the Horseshoe. As I go through college, I hope to continue growing as a leader and person while becoming an active member in the university and society.
