Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. G.O.A.L.S.

My goal for the end of the semester is to make a follow a study schedule to prepare me for my final exams. I believe that that following a planned study schedule will allow me to adequately prepare for all of my exams and keep my GPA high going into second semester. By the end of the semester I also want to get 5 more service hours. Completed 5 more hours will allow me to serve my community and help people.

My goal for the end of this school year is to be accepted into my desired engineering major. To do this, I will have to maintain my grades and plan ahead for my assignments. I hope that being accepted into my desired major will reflect that I have set myself on the right track. This will also reflect that I have put in a lot of effort into my schoolwork and that I am starting the pathway to my career.

My goal for the end of my college career is to either get an internship in my field or engage in a research project. Which it would be nice to complete both of these, I only strive to achieve at least one by the end of my college career. Getting an internship and engaging in a research project are both ways that I can further explore my interests in STEM and gain experience in my field. These will also both give me the opportunity to meet top researchers in my field of study and start to create a network.

  • Global Awareness: Students cultivate and develop their appreciation for diversity and each individual’s unique differences. For example, consider course work, study abroad, involvement in cultural organizations or activities, etc.
  • Original Inquiry: Honors & Scholars students understand the research process by engaging in experiences ranging from in-class scholarly endeavors to creative inquiry projects to independent experiences with top researchers across campus and in the global community. For example, consider research, creative productions or performances, advanced course work, etc.
  • Academic Enrichment: Honors & Scholars students pursue academic excellence through rigorous curricular experiences beyond the university norm both in and out of the classroom.
  • Leadership Development: Honors & Scholars students develop leadership skills that can be demonstrated in the classroom, in the community, in their co-curricular activities, and in their future roles in society.

About Me

Hi! My name is Kailey Robinson and I am from Barrington, Illinois. I went to Barrington High School and participated in the National Honors Society and Dodo Club. I also danced competitively for 7 years. I enjoy dancing, baking, singing, hiking, and spending time with friends. I have always been led by my curiosity to learn more, which led me to pursue a major in Computer Science and Engineering in the College of Engineering. At Ohio State I am looking forward to exploring different kinds of engineering and getting involved with programs committed to promoting women in STEM fields. I chose to participate in the STEM Scholars program at Ohio State because I am passionate about incorporating more women into the world of STEM and allowing for more diversity in the field of Engineering.

I plan to become a computer engineer after I receive my bachelor’s degree. While I was in high school I worked at a Panera Bread. Through this experience, I learned how to better communicate with others and value timeliness. In the future, I want to use these skills and apply them to a job as a computer engineer.
