Natural Resources

Land, water, soil, plants, and animals are all resources needed to thrive. All humans, regardless of where they live, depend on these resources for survival but many don’t know where and how they are produced. Those of us living in urban areas, especially, are disconnected from experiences in and around nature that would teach us the importance of conserving our resources. When used responsibly, natural resources provide the foundation for maintaining and improving quality of life. Cuyahoga County Extension seeks to provide urban residents with the knowledge to properly manage natural resources in their environment.

The Cuyahoga Soil and Water Conservation District provides educational outreach, stormwater services, watershed management, and natural resource management. Visit their website for more info and to subscribe to their email updates.

The Nature Center at Shaker Lakes conserves a natural area, connects people with nature and inspires environmental stewardship. To learn about their events and programs, volunteer opportunities, or resources visit their website and subscribe to their “Nature Break” email list.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources is responsible for formulating and putting into execution a long-term comprehensive plan for the development and wise use of the natural resources of the state, to the end that the health, happiness and wholesome enjoyment of life of the people of Ohio may be further encouraged.
