Live Stream, Lunch, and Learn: In-Person Viewing of Online Organic Vegetable Production Conference January 26th

Ohio vegetable growers are invited to gather in Wooster, Ohio, on Friday, January 26 for a one-day in-person viewing of the 2024 Organic Vegetable Production Conference (OVPC).

“Live Stream, Lunch, and Learn” is open to any local producers using or interested in organic production practices. This year’s talks focus on tunnel production. The local event begins with coffee and social time at 8:30 a.m. and programming from 9a.m. – 3p.m., including live-streamed and recorded sessions from the OVPC virtual conference, along with roundtable and networking opportunities with other growers and Ohio State personnel.

There is no cost to attend thanks to an Ohio State grant from the Foundation for Food & Agriculture Research, but participants must pre-register by Monday, January 22. Register online at go.osu.edu/ovpc24 or call the Wayne County Extension Office at 330-264-8722.

2024 Warner Grants for Sustainable Agriculture RFP Released – Deadline March 31st!

Applications are now being accepted for the 2024 Warner On-Farm Research Grant program, which is administered by the Agroecosystem Management Program (AMP) in the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.

The Warner grants are funded from an endowment created by Paul C. and Edna H. Warner, and provide up to $5,000 to support collaborative on-farm research that advance sustainable agriculture.  Applicants need to include at least 1 farmer and 1 OSU researcher or extension educator.

The C. Wayne Ellett Plant and Pest Diagnostic Clinic: a resource for dealing with plant and pests related issues.

With this Bygl Alert we would like to give an overview of the diagnostic services offered by the C. Wayne Ellett Plant and Pest Diagnostic Clinic.

The C. Wayne Ellett Plant and Pest Diagnostic Clinic (PPDC) moved to The CFAES Wooster Campus about a year ago. We are located at the OSU CFAES Wooster Campus on the second floor (Selby Hall, room 234) of the Department of Plant Pathology. We continue to provide diagnostic services and support for plant and pest-related problems for a wide range of stakeholders (agricultural/green industries, growers and agribusinesses, health care professionals and the general public).

Sacred Grounds™ Cleveland Mini-Grant Application is Live!

Sacred Grounds™ is a National Wildlife Federation program that recognizes congregations, houses of worship, and faith communities who both create wildlife habitat and actively link faith practices and caring for the environment. The organization works alongside local partners to assist houses of workshop and their communities with project planning and technical expertise to increase native plant gardens.

Sacred Grounds™ is providing $1,500 mini-grants to faith communities toward installing native plant gardens, wildlife habitats, and earth stewardship projects to engage congregations and communities while increasing access to green spaces. Farm-On: OSU Farm Financial Management Course

The Farm On course was created to address the needs of Ohio’s new and beginning farmers who want to better prepare themselves to operate a commercial farm in Ohio and do that with a high level of economic stability while remaining profitable and responsible along the way.  What’s unique about the Farm On course is that, not only does it comply with the regulations of the new Ohio House Bill 95 Beginning Farmer Tax Credit program, it also meets the borrower training requirements for the U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency’s Beginning Farmer and Rancher Loan Program.

The 10-module Farm On course includes video lessons, quizzes, and opportunities to apply knowledge gained through graded course exercises. Students can engage with the lead course instructor  through virtual office hours and scheduled appointments. The course covers the following topics:
