Weed Control for the Growing Season

We are entering peak growing season and as our plants grow so do pests. Many of us in Cuyahoga County may be starting to see Poison Hemlock, Japanese Knotweed, and Wild Parsnip in our yards and gardens. Fortunately there are methods to remove and control these invasive, non-native plants.

Buckeye Yard and Garden Online has a great article about poison hemlock and wild parsnip control which can be accessed through this link .

The USDA has a handy publication with comprehensive information about Japanese Knotweed which can be accessed here.

World Bee Day

Celebrate the bees and raise awareness on the essential role of other pollinators in keeping people and the planet healthy, as well as the challenges they face today. Saturday May 20th from 10 am to 4 pm at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds will be a fun day full of speakers, demonstration tables, food trucks, face painting, and more!

Information about the day’s events can be found on the Greater Cleveland Beekeepers Association website under the events tab.

Propagating Purple Lavender

The Geauga County Master Gardener Volunteers will be hosting a $15, lavender focused workshop on Saturday June 10th, 10 am to noon. This workshop will take place at the Geauga County Extension Office, 14269 Claridon-Troy Road, Burton, OH 44021. Registration and payment must be received by June 3rd to hold your spot. For more information and to register please contact 440-834-4656.

Starter Plant Delays

New garden starter plant distribution weekend has been postponed. Due to the erratic weather we experienced in early spring, the starter plant supplier has had to restart many of the plants from seed, which has extended the expected date for the event. Plant Distribution Weekend will now be June 9th through the 11th.
