Global Awareness: Students cultivate and develop their appreciation for diversity and each individual’s unique differences. For example, consider course work, study abroad, involvement in cultural organizations or activities, etc .
Original Inquiry: Honors & Scholars students understand the research process by engaging in experiences ranging from in-class scholarly endeavors to creative inquiry projects to independent experiences with top researchers across campus and in the global community. For example, consider research, creative productions or performances, advanced course work, etc.
Academic Enrichment: After talking to an upperclassman that is also premed I’ve learned that the Kaplan course for the mcat is not recommended. Instead the Princeton review is the most helpful. About Me

My name is Deztani. I am a freshman at the Ohio State University and I am from Akron, Ohio. I’ve wanted to be a buckeye here since the eighth grade when I had a tore of the campus. I loved the people and resources I saw around campus then, and to this day I still see more and more I love about the campus each day. Coincidentally, to help my dreams come true I was accepted to The Young Scholars Program at the end of eighth grade which is funding my education here at OSU for the next four years! I am a member of the Health Sciences scholars program which coincidentally worked out pretty great for me because I am also a Health Sciences major. As mentioned, I am majoring in Health sciences, and I also plan on minoring in neuroscience on a pre-med track. I have chosen these studies because when someone hears pre-med they typically think biology or chemistry major; however, I do not find enough interest in those subjects to major in them, and when I heard about the Health Sciences major I knew this was the right one for me. I chose to do neurosciences because I have large interest in the way the body works and I felt I should try to extend my learning to as many things that interests me as I can while I have the funding. Also, I have recently done a research project on the effects of child sexual abuse on it’s victims and realized that I have a great love for helping and understanding unfortunate people. Therefore, I have been thinking about double minoring in Social work as well. I want to some day become a general surgeon. During middle school I was a part of a program known as the HIP program. During this program I was able to tour many hospitals around Akron. One event that stuck out to me the most was a class I took which had a power point that included many gruesome pictures of people that had been hurt and sent to the ER. In this class we also learned how to give a patient sutures. Since then I have wanted to be a surgeon. OSU seems like a perfect fit for the exposure I am trying to get in the medical field and I am so excited for the opportunities it will bring me.
