My G.O.A.L.S. for College

I want to cultivate a global awareness and perspective by doing work or volunteering that gets me involved in the community. I can do this through volunteering in hospitals or clinics where I get to see patients in person and do work to help them as best as I can. Going on trips with Remote Area Medical would also give me exposure and opportunity to help those in underserved areas of the country by providing with basic free healthcare. I want to do other forms of service as well such as volunteering with people with special needs which I have done for most of my life.

I want to be involved with original inquiry through research in the sciences. I want to build connections with my professors and then possibly work with them on their research projects in their fields to get first-hand experience with experts and eventually create knew knowledge of my own.

I want to use my major in neuroscience and prerequisites on the pre-medicine track to help build a foundation that I can use to get into medical school and then thrive while I am there. A neuroscience background will also give me greater perspective into the brain than other pre-med tracks which provides a basis for looking at a more fundamental level of the way the brain and medical issues can interact and how they impact each other. I want to use my honors background to gain access to rigorous classes and excellent professors that can provide me with new knowledge and possibly a new way of thinking about the world that will give me a greater academic perspective for future endeavors.

I am a general body member of my dorm and regular member of my clubs, but in the future I want to take my experiences from R-Lead and OWL and become a leader on campus in my dorm or clubs. I want to grow in my ability to help others and guide them since this is the role I will have if I am able to become a physician in the future.

I plan to serve the community through the trips with Remote Area Medical, volunteering at hospitals, and volunteering with people with special needs, or with others in general. These opportunities will get me engaged in the community, providing needed time and effort to help those that need it and deserve it. I hope to find other service opportunities as well where I am able to give back in a significant way that truly makes in an impact for others.
