Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. G.O.A.L.S.

For my next four years here at The Ohio State University, I have a few goals I really want to accomplish an I am so glad that they tie into the Honors & Scholars G.O.A.L.S.

One of my goals is simply to make more friends and find out more about people deeper than just the surface level talk.  I come from a very diverse hometown, and I really value the differences and uniqueness every single individual brings to the table.  This past week, I just went on retreat with my Scholars Program, Mount, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.  The activities we did really allowed us all to be vulnerable and get to know each other in ways we really wouldn’t in normal every day conversation.  It also made me realize that you never really know someone’s story and you truly cannot judge a book by its cover.  So my goal is to hold off judgement, and take the time to actually get to know more people.

Another goal I have is to get a 3.5 or better in the classroom.  I am not sure I will, but that is my goal.  I am undecided at the moment, but I am heavily leaning toward Exercise Science and then going to Physical Therapy school after.  I would love to work with kids and help them heal.  However, for Exercise Science, it is obviously a lot of upper level science classes so I am little scared of how well I will do.  But, I am going to give it my all and see where it takes me.

Lastly, I hope to continue to develop my leadership skills and increase my commitment to service through Mount Leadership.  Mount gives us a lot of amazing opportunities to give back to the community and to help out those less fortunate; that is the number one reason why I chose to be in Mount.  I hope to just say yes to as many service and leadership opportunities I can get my hands on.  I already know I want to go to North Carolina with Mount this spring to help at a school that a Mount Alum teaches at.  I hope that dream becomes a reality.

Overall, I am so excited to see what these next four years have in store for me and my fellow classmates as we go through this crazy journey we call college together.

Career

[“Career” is where you can collect information about your experiences and skills that will apply to your future career.  Like your resume, this is information that will evolve over time and should be continually updated.   For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. Artifacts

My first artifact is an infinity symbol.  This represents my academic interest in mathematics.  I am not sure if I want to find a career that involves doing math every day but I have always had a passion for math in school.  It comes easy to me and I actually really enjoy getting an equation and solving the problem for the answer.  I love that there is always a right answer in math.  Sometimes in life there is gray areas but in math there is right and wrong.  Also, I simply like the infinity sign and the meaning that I interpret along with it.  I also have a tattoo of an infinity sign with my adoption date inscripted in it.  The infinity sign holds a lot of personal meaning to me.

About Me

My name is Amy Ritschel.  I am from Lakewood, Ohio.  I have two older brothers named David and Brian.  I have two dogs named Duke and Phoebe.  I am a freshmen at The Ohio State University.  I am a first year in Mount Leadership Society.

In high school, I took rigorous AP courses while balancing Varsity Tennis and Varsity Softball.  I was also a member of National Honors Society, the Editor of the Yearbook, and the President of a club called Eaters of Lakewood (we went out to dinner to different restaurants in Lakewood each month).

While here at Ohio State, I hope to participate in intramural sports, probably softball.  I also am interested in possibly joining Buckeyethon.  I plan to get involved with my scholars program as well.

I cannot wait to see what these next four years will hold!
