Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. Columbus To-Do List #1

On October 27th I went with my group to Condado on high street. We met at Drackett Tower in the morning and took a Cota Bus to right next to the location. We all sat down to eat tacos at Condado and had some fun conversations while waiting for our food. I enjoyed talking to the people in my group, but I can’t lie and say that the tacos weren’t my favorite part of the event. Condado lets you create your own tacos with a wide variety of options, and they came out delicious. There is a taco place in the cleveland area called Barrio. I learned that one of the creators of Barrio actually ended up making Condado in Columbus in order to expand the restaurant style. The two places are extremely similar which led to some legal troubles for Condado. I would definitely recommend trying to place to anyone who likes tacos. The food there is great, it has a very nice environment, and the food comes out pretty quickly. I will definitely be going back and I can’t wait to try some of the other foods that Columbus has to offer!

Columbus To-Do List #2

On September 3rd I went to a Columbus Clippers game with my roommate Matt and friend Drew along with some other friends who aren’t in HES. They were playing the Toledo Mud Hens and won 8-1. During the game Josh Donaldson went up to bat (he was the 2015 MLB MVP) and hit a grand slam on the first pitch thrown to him. The tickets for the game were only $11 and it was the 10¢ hotdog day! The game took place in Huntington Park which is in the Arena District of Columbus. I really enjoyed watching the baseball game with friends and eating the food. The only downside was that it was really hot that day and there was very little shade to sit in. The next time I go I will definitely bring sunglasses, water, and put on sun screen. At the game I learned about the players on the Clippers and during the day I got to learn the Arena District. I am excited to go back and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys baseball.

Career

[“Career” is where you can collect information about your experiences and skills that will apply to your future career.  Like your resume, this is information that will evolve over time and should be continually updated.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. Artifacts

The artifact I have chosen is my computer. Ever since I was very little I’ve had an interest in electronics, especially computers. This is likely due to my dad being very nerdy about computers and showing me all sorts of cool things that they can do. My interest in them has continued to grow and is still growing now. Even though I am Engineering Undeclared right now I plan on choosing one of the two engineering majors that are directly related to computers (EE or CSE). My computer has helped me in completing dozens of papers, editing many photos, and learning countless bits of new information. I am fascinated by not only what you can do with computers, but how they work, how to build better computers, and how to help others with this quickly evolving technology. My computer does everything from give me news and weather to entertain me with games and movies. Needless to say I spend a lot of time using my computer. Computers are such a help in the modern world and there is only room for them to grow more. I hope to one day be at the forefront of computer innovation, helping the world get more useful and powerful technology.

The second artifact I have chosen is my dorm room door. While this is a strange choice for an artifact, our door has some good memories behind it and holds some significant meaning. It is pretty obvious upon looking at the door that there are sticky notes on it with letters on them. Since the semester has started my roommates and I have been rearranging and adding letters to write messages or just create gibberish that we find amusing. Currently on it is “REEL FIPMK” which doesn’t seem to make sense to most people, and admittedly doesn’t make much sense to us either, but it does help to show the strange humor our room has. We all get along very well and have created friendships that will last far beyond just our first year. In a way the door isn’t just a canvas for random words or the entrance to our room, it is a symbol of the bonding done in our room and of the many “doors of friendship” here at OSU waiting to be opened and redesigned.

About Me

Hello! I am Charlie Ringler and I am currently a freshman studying engineering. Right now I am in th engineering undeclared program, but I’ll most likely steer towards computer science engineering or electrical and computer engineering (I just want to explore all of the options first). I enjoy math and science classes as well as problem solving in general. I also have a strong interest in computers and how they work. My main goal is to get my degree and find a job I enjoy doing that pays well, but one day I would like to start a business of my own or invent something. I would like to create something that benefits many people across the world. I would love to leave a positive mark on the world. I find my biggest strengths to be solving problems and helping others. I have always enjoyed lending a helping hand to others in need. I try to learn new things every day and push myself to be a better person. Some of my hobbies include: listening to music, hanging out with friends, playing video games, and playing basketball. My favorite artist right now is Post Malone. My favorite things to do at OSU are exploring the huge campus, and meeting new people.

My Top 5 Strengths:

1.) Ideation– I am someone who is fascinated with how things work and I can easily find connections and relationships between different things. I love learning new theories and concepts or creating my own.

2.) Stategic– I am able to quickly spot patterns and issues in any given scenario. I am constantly thinking of new ways to enhance processes or actions.

3.) Learner– This means I am someone who has a desire to learn more and improve. I take opportunities to learn new things and I am always asking questions.

4.) Includer– I am someone who is aware of others who feel left out and try to include them. I love helping other people as well as communicating with them to get their input.

5.) Restorative– I am a person who can quickly figure out what is wrong and fix it. I am honest with myself and am able to calmly assess a situation in order to think of an appropriate solution.
