Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness – I plan to learn and develop my global awareness and appreciation for other cultures and individuals by developing relationships with the people around me. There are lots of people with different values in background in every class and every location on campus, and each of them brings something to every conversation or problem that I don’t. Additionally, I want to study anthropology to gain more insight to the differences among groups of people, and what makes everyone uniquely special.

Original Inquiry – Studying psychology, research is very important. I’d like to participate in research projects that help my understanding of how research works and how to make the process as efficient as possible. I will contact professors that I know are working on research and see about positions in which I could aid in the process to learn more about their work. Additionally, I plan to work on my own undergraduate research to write a thesis. I’ll take the honors thesis research course to aid in this endeavor.

Academic Enrichment – I aspire to be a psychiatrist. This has influenced my choices in course and will continue to as I keep going at Ohio State. I am taking a behavioral neuroscience course, and desire to take many more cognitive, behavioral, counseling, and therapy classes. I also want to minor in philosophy, so I will take those courses when I am given the chance. Many of the psychology classes which I am interested in and believe will be beneficial have honors courses offered, so those are the classes that I’ll take, to make my coursework more rigorous and better prepare myself for my career.

Leadership Development – Honors courses should help me develop myself into a better leader. Currently, I am not involved in any of the co-curricular activities listed in the major information module. However, I am interested in the psychology book club and want to get involved with it. I also think that finding some internships over the summer would be beneficial to my learning experiences and leadership skills.

Service Engagement – I have not yet begun serving, though I am looking into opportunities to serve the community in behavioral health fields. This is the reason that I wanted to get into psychiatry; there are a lot of people who need help with mental health problems, as they are not only increasingly prevalent, but the stigma associated with them prevents many people from receiving treatment. I’d like to help out behavioral help teams or therapists who can help me better understand the process they use to help people, like I’d like to do in my career.
