G.O.A.L.S

Global Awareness– To enhance my understanding of other cultures, I hope that I will be able to study abroad during my undergraduate experience. The only time I’ve left the country was when I went to Toronto, and I feel like my view on the world is very limited and westernized. Additionally, I want to continue taking Spanish so that I will be able to fluently communicate with native Spanish speakers.

Original Inquiry– I am currently not sure if I would like to do research, however, I am open to the idea. I would love to get an internship that takes me to Washington D.C. I know a program through the Public Policy school takes students there, and next year I plan to apply for the summer.

Academic Enrichment– I have always seen the value in a liberal arts education. I think people who are truly educated are those who have experienced success in all fields. I am excited to take GE courses in fields that don’t relate to my major. I am currently enrolled in a foreign language and mathematics GE. While I don’t think my major will be anything remotely related to STEM, pre-calc teaches me how to analyze problems like a puzzle and systematically find solutions. I came into college undecided, however, I am beginning to think I want to major in political science. I would like to couple this with either a major/minor in economics or public policy because I think that lends a new perspective to the applications of my major.

Leadership Development– Honors classes give me a smaller environment in which I am more comfortable speaking and leading discussions. This confidence then makes it easier to bring that same attitude into all of my classes and act as a leader. So far I have joined Best Buddies and BuckeyeThon. As of now I have no leadership roles as I’m still learning what these clubs do, however, I do plan on taking on leadership roles if they become available. I do prefer to be a leader once I understand the dynamics of an organization. In high school, I had leadership positions in a few clubs and I enjoyed having a greater impact on the decisions we made and the events we organized.

Service Engagement– The clubs I have decided to join are both very service oriented. As a new member of the Columbus community, I want to be able to give back. Best Buddies ensures that those with both mental and physical disabilities are included the same way anyone else is. People are quick to discount those with disabilities and don’t see them for the people we are. Being involved with this club has definitely peaked my interest in disability rights.
