Week 3

Brief description of the weekly topic: online classroom instruction: pros and cons

What I learned this week..

The effectiveness of online instruction and how it is viewed by the learning and teaching community. I learned that people are becoming more comfortable working in e-classroom settings.

What is the relative advantage of using ____(X) technology?

The costs of online instruction are lower. Learners can work in a secure and comfortable learning climate which leads to more success and information retention.

I wonder would happen if …in class instruction was completely eliminated….

 

Week 4

Brief description of the weekly topic: Communication and Networks

What I learned this week..

I learned some new suggestions on how to help learners launch searches via the web to find educational resources and references to use with their reports and classwork.

 

What is the relative advantage of using ____(X) technology?

Learners will be able to reference reliable resources, teachers will be able to search for plagiarism and misuse of information easier. These two advantages will help- learners grow and develop more necessary skills they will need such as citing info once they have graduated.

 

I wonder what would happen if …there was no forgiveness policy for this course’s assignments

 

Week 5

What I learned this week..

I learned the 5 J’s of ed tech: job related, just enough, just in time, just in case, just try it

 

What is the relative advantage of using ____(X) technology?

These quick suggestions were used to help simplify the implementation of technology in the classrooms for teachers. Using new technology takes patience, experience, and trial and error. By giving teachers these suggestions, they can stay the course and make sure learners get use out of all different types of technology.

 

I wonder what would happen if …technology implementation was a benchmark and a requirement by the state

 

Week 6

Brief description of the weekly topic: Excel

What I learned this week…

Excel in the classroom

 

What is the relative advantage of using ____(X) technology?

Excel helps students compare multiple types of data on a spreadsheet to help identify patterns and trends, while graphing and plotting that data onto a chart.

Early exposure to excel will help students grasp more in depth concepts later on when using the program

I wonder what would happen if …excel was used as much as word in elementary schools

 

Week 7 

Brief description of the weekly topic: Hardware for Educators

What I learned this week…

I learned the different components and makeups of a computer and other technologies involved with computers

 

 

What is the relative advantage of using ____(X) technology?

This was a great introductory lesson to the makeup of computer systems and their parts. It will be useful when breaking down computer components for adult learners in my adult ed class. Breaking down complex objects into simpler parts helps make things easier to locate and interact with

I wonder what would happen if …computers became completely obsolete

Brief description of the weekly topic: Digital Media vs. Multimedia

What I learned this week…

I Learned the difference between digital media and multimedia

 

 

What is the relative advantage of using ____(X) technology?

Using digital media in a multimedia setting helps keep lessons more interactive for learners. Learners retain 80% of knowledge when lessons are interactive compared to 50% knowledge retention when lessons are more straightforward and less interactive

I wonder what would happen if …every student was provided an iPad from first grade through twelfth grade

Brief description of the weekly topic: Integrating Digital Media and Educational Software Apps

What I learned this week…

The differences between digital media and multimedia. Digital media is electronic media stored in digital format. Multimedia is the use of two or more types of digital media to present a topic.

 

 

What is the relative advantage of using ____(X) technology?

This can create a n interactive learning environment for users which leads to more knowledge retention than information recall

I wonder what would happen if …computers and video were three dimensional

 

Week 10

Brief description of the weekly topic: Technology, Digital Media, and curriculum

What I learned this week…

Animations, charts, graphics, audio and video are just some forms of multimedia that can be used in the classroom separately or together to create an interactive learning environment for students

 

 

What is the relative advantage of using ____(X) technology?

This can keep students attention longer and help keep them involved so they retain more knowledge and gain a greater understanding of in depth information

I wonder what would happen if … 3D printers began making interactive models for classes

What I learned this week…

Costs seems to be a large barrier for schools who are trying to integrate technology for learners. Monitoring, and internet access are concerns. Some school districts receive more funding than others which leads to a gap in the number of students in the state learning how to use new technologies.

 

 

What is the relative advantage of using ____(X) technology?

Technology in the classroom can ready learners for the real world and also prepare them for newer upgrades to technology when using it at such a young age

I wonder what would happen if … iPads became a requriement for school like books
