Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. Global Awareness and Academic Enrichment are the two areas I’m most interested in.

In high school I did well and fulfilled the academic enrichment piece; also, I tried to stay informed about what is happening around the world.

As an OSU student I hope to study abroad sometime during my years here. This will be very effective at adding to the Global Awareness side. I am currently performing alright in my classes, so that is academic enrichment.

An obstacle is my self-control to make my studies a priority. A big road block for the study abroad trip is definitely financial. Study abroad is very expensive, so my goal to be able to achieve this is to do well in my classes, network, and hopefully be able to fund my trip. I would like to go to a Central or South American country. Taking Spanish in high school really piqued my interest in Spanish culture, and Latin America would be a great place to volunteer, explore, and learn about their culture.

Career

[“Career” is where you can collect information about your experiences and skills that will apply to your future career.  Like your resume, this is information that will evolve over time and should be continually updated.   For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. Through survey, my group and I compiled information and made a presentation about the efficiency and future of algae as a bio-fuel to help sustainability progress in the future.

About Me

Picture with hillaryMy name is Max Rice, and I’m from Van Wert, OH.

I am already loving my time at THE Ohio State University. I enjoy the vast opportunities to get involved on campus. I also enjoy that we learn new things outside of the classroom.

My major is Chemical Engineering, and I’m also a Green Engineering Scholar. I am passionate about the environment, LGBT activism, feminism, social equality in general, and giving back to my community.

I also love music; I play alto and soprano saxophone and the piano. I would describe myself as a thespian, and my favorite musical is a three-way tie between Les Misérables, RENT, and The Phantom of the Opera.

In my free time I love to explore the city, ride my bike, meet new people, learn about what is going on in the political world, and try new hobbies.
