Year in Review

In the past year I have grown exponentially as a person. It is funny to look back at my thoughts and behaviors at the start of my very first semester. I was overly anxious about making friends and still had a very “high school” frame of thought. As I settled down into a routine and found a great group of friends, Ohio State started feeling more and more like home. I am now sad, for the first time in my life, that school is ending for the summer. I will miss the constant entertainment and nice long runs on the river. I would say that my biggest accomplishment this year was facing my fears. I let things like hard classes and insecurities intimidate me and scare me out of studying what I knew I wanted to study since the start, nutrition. I have now come to terms with accepting hard work and can not wait to return to Columbus in the fall and put my plans into action.

Global Awareness: Coming from a small town, I was delighted to finally go to a school with a large amount of diversity. I joined Morrill Global Buddies and had a fun time participating in cultural activities.
Original Inquiry: I enjoyed exploring my creative side this past school year. First semester I took an acting course. I was amazed at how many dialogues I could memorize and always surprised myself with the performances I was able to give in front of large groups of strangers. This semester I took a drawing course where I learned many new techniques and surprised myself once again with what I was capable of.
Academic Enrichment: I loved the wide variety of course work I took this semester. My favorite was my biology class where I learned not only basic biology, but how to live a more sustainable life. I have been incorporating that into my lifestyle much more.
Leadership Development: Last semester I took a leadership class that opened my eyes on how to properly become a leader. It was very interesting learning about the numerous styles of leadership and how I could utilize them in my educational and career life.
Service Engagement: This semester I participated in a program called Buckeyes Inspire. We went to a local high school monthly and mentored students on how to seek higher education. I enjoyed teaching them simple things that I wish I would have known when going through the process.

Career

As an undecided major I was very unsure of what I wanted my future career to be. As of now, I am pursuing a human nutrition, nutrition in industry major. My ideal job would be to work within the marketing sector of a food corporation. I have applied for a summer internship at J.M. Smuckers and company in pursuit of this goal.

For my theatre class we had to attend several productions at the Drake over the course of the semester. My favorite production by far was the showing of One Man, Two Guvnors. It was over the top and hilarious. I loved getting to go to the productions as it introduced me to a whole side of Ohio State that I was not familiar with and increased my appreciation for culture and the talent of the students.
