Climate Change Lecture by Pope Francis’s Climate Scientist

Climate Change: Morphing into an Existential Threat is a lecture by Pope Francis’s climate scientist: V. Ramanathan, Ph.D. Dr. Ramanathan is world renowned climate scientist who serves as a member of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and advised Pope Francis on Laudato Si’. He also represented the Holy See at the United Nations Climate Negotiations in 2015 and 2016. Creighton University will hold the lecture, which will be a live stream beginning February 21st at 7:00 pm central time. To watch the live stream, click here.

Pope Francis on Humanity and Climate Change

Pope Francis stated that the recent amount of natural disasters should prompt people to understand that humanity will “go down” if it does not address climate change. When asked about the Paris Agreement and the U.S’s decision to withdraw he commented, “All of us have a responsibility, all of us, small or large, a moral responsibility. Catholic Institutions Divest from Fossil Fuels

Catholic institutions are turning away from fossil fuels and investing in renewable energy. On October 4, 2017, a group of 40 Catholic institutions from 11 countries committed to divest from fossil fuels making it the largest joint Catholic announcement to date. Approximately 60 Catholic institutions to date have announced plans to partially or fully divest from the fossil fuel industry.
