Executive summary

My argumentative essay discussed three reasons why Amazon will have a positive impact on society over time. I explained why each reason would benefit us as a whole, as well as discussed the counterarguments others may have. Amazon Go, Drone delivery, and the increase in online shopping are the reasons I discussed. Jeff Bezos has created Amazon from the bottom up and it has truly made a groundbreaking impact on the world and will continue to do so.

Some sources that helped me to support my arguments are:

Second and third argument

A reason why Amazons future will create an easier way of life, is their new delivery system. Within the past few years Gur Kimchi, the vice president of Amazon, presented his vision of the future of automated drone delivery systems. These drones will give consumers the incredible ability to receive their items in thirty minutes or less. Just imagine, receiving any item online as quickly as receiving a pizza. The main goal of the drones is to be able to ship a product to a customer as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Jeff Bezos says “Internet sites like amazon.com made it possible to overcome the geographical challenges, enabling anyone with an Internet connection and a computer to browse a limitless universe of items and then buy them directly from the comfort of their homes.” The possibilities and handiness that online stores bring us cause more people to shop online instead of traveling to stores and markets. This is a major reason why Amazon is such an extreme influence on society. It has been making an impact since 1995 and will continue to do so. Not only by improving the quality of online shopping, but by changing the way we actually do it.

What I learned from Laura Fathauer’s presentation

Laura Fathauer’s presentation was about User-generated content and Mashups. This information may help me in my future schoolwork because I didn’t even know what a mashup was to begin with. They are compositions that combine existing works which are protected by copyright and change them into new original creations. Another thing that can help me is that some documents can be freely used by people because they are now in the public domain. Since they have been published before 1923, we have the right to copy them. This will be very useful when completing future assignments for classes!

Argument supporting my thesis

Why is Amazon going to benefit society in the future?

  1. Online shopping is not the only thing that Amazon is successful at. In my previous posts I mentioned “Amazon Go” which is their up an coming grocery store. This futuristic store allows you to walk in and out with your phone without checking out at a register. In the future years to come, I can predict that this will only kickstart the future of the way we all start grocery shopping.

What did I learn from TradeMark Gunderson’s presentation about Copyright/Copyleft that may help me in our class and other academic pursuits?

Trademark Gunderson had a very interesting presentation that really made me think. Learning about copyright and copyleft will make me more aware and careful about what I publish online. I learned about copyleft and how artistic work is modified and distributed freely online. Until his presentation, I was very unaware that copyleft was something that existed, learning about how artists can be affected by this was very eye opening and interesting.

How does Scott’s presentation affect my interaction with my university work?

Scotts presentation during class last week was very eye opening and informative. He discussed a lot of topics that I don’t usually think about when I am doing my daily assignments. Learning how to use the internet wisely and securing your privacy is extremely important. Things like, using two-factor authentication, not putting bank information online, and using a very intricate password are just a few things to keep you protected. He reminded me about things I haven’t thought about in a long time and I plan on using his advice when completing school work.
