Acute Care Occupational Therapy Fellowship

Alexis Garrett, OTD, OTR/L – Alexis is from a large family of nine from Mentor, OH. She graduated from Baldwin Wallace University in 2021 with a Bachelor of Science, and during her time there she was a four-year collegiate athlete playing volleyball. Alexis continued her education at the University of Findlay and earned her Doctor of Occupational Therapy degree in 2024. During her time in graduate school she cared for numerous older adults in the community, and this solidified her love for this population. During her time in OT school, she was involved in the Student Occupational Therapy Association and presented research at the 2023 AOTA inspire national conference. Alexis was able to gain clinical knowledge with various experiences including rotations at Ohio Living Skilled Nursing, Riverside Methodist Hospital, and The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. She completed her capstone project at the Brain and Spine Hospital surrounding caregiver education for stroke patients. Alexis’ passion for acute care led her to continue at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and begin her OT career with the acute care fellowship program. Alexis is excited to provide innovative treatments and best quality care for patients. Alexis is thrilled to begin this new journey to expand clinical knowledge in the acute setting and being involved in the classroom. Outside of the hospital, Alexis enjoys spending time with family and friends, working out, and watching sports!

Neurologic Occupational Therapy Fellowship

Alannah Miller, OTD, OTR/L – Alannah was raised in St. Paris, OH. She received her Bachelor of Science in 2020 with a minor in psychology. During her education, Alannah worked as a personal trainer at a hospital system in Southern Ohio. Next, she received her Master of Occupational Therapy in 2022 from Shawnee State University. Following graduation, Alannah has worked as an acute care occupational therapist serving multiple hospitals in the Columbus area. Alannah’s interest in working with individuals with neurologic diagnoses began while helping in her mother’s classroom and assisting in building an adaptive dance class for children. Later, her passion for this population was confirmed during her fieldwork rotation at the spinal cord injury unit within Louis Stokes VA in Cleveland, OH. While at the VA, she had the opportunity to observe and assist with specialty clinics including ALS, MS, and wheelchair clinic. Additionally, she worked closely with wound care and lymphatic therapists which inspired her to pursue further education for her own practice. As a Neurologic OT fellow, Alannah aims to advance her clinical practice skills and explore areas of academia. Outside of the clinic, Alannah enjoys lifting, hiking, and spending time with family and her cats.

Jacqui Orenda-Weber, OTD, OTR/L – Jacqui earned a Bachelor of Arts degree (BA) in Psychology from Concordia University, a Certified Optometric Vision Therapist (COVT) certification from the College of Optometrists in Vision Development, and a Doctor of Occupational Therapy degree (OTD) with a concentration in interprofessional education from Pacific University. During her doctoral capstone project, she developed best practice guidelines for the management of visual dysfunction and visual impairment post-acquired brain injury. She has presented her work on OT’s role in vision care at the Occupational Therapy Association of Oregon (OTAO) and American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) Adult Physical Rehabilitation national conferences. Jacqui consults with a hospital-based interest group for neuro-vision rehab, participates in brain injury resource and support groups, develops patient education materials for health literacy, promotes occupational justice, and supports inclusive education on sex and sexuality after disability. When she’s not geeking out on the brain, she enjoys cleaning (really!), dancing (often while cleaning), sweating it out at Orange Theory, hiking with her husband and dogs, practicing yoga, cycling, working toward Spanish fluency, and savoring coffee.

Hand and Upper Extremity Occupational Therapy Fellowship

Rebekah Wade, MOT, OTR/L – Rebekah grew up in Boca Raton, FL. She received her bachelor’s degree from University of South Florida and master’s degree in occupational therapy from Medical University of South Carolina. During graduate school, she was a graduate teaching assistant for anatomy cadaver lab and completed level one and level two fieldwork rotations at hand therapy clinics. She initially began her career in the acute care setting for a year before working at an outpatient clinic in Houston, TX. the past year to gain hand therapy experience. She recently completed an advanced practice certificate in hand and upper limb rehabilitation through Thomas Jefferson University to enhance her clinical knowledge and skills. Rebekah is passionate about staying current with research and providing innovative treatments and is looking forward to advancing her clinical reasoning and teaching skills during the fellowship. During her free time, she enjoys participating in continuing education courses, exploring outdoors, baking, and spending time with friends.
