Taylor Green is a new and beginning farmer and small-scale regenerative farmer. Taylor is the Farm and Education Developer at the Maize Manor Urban Farm Church in Columbus, Ohio. The Urban Farm Church converted its lawn into a growing space to support community food access concerns. After watching agricultural documentaries, Taylor decided to work as an apprentice to gain on-farm knowledge. Taylor was employed in 2022 to oversee the farm operation at the Urban Farm Church to build a community around farming and give people a different way to connect themselves to the land.
While neighbors of the church were at first concerned to see the lawn torn up, several now stop, talk, walk, or just thank Taylor for the beauty and produce the farm provides. Some community members have even decided to tear up their own lawns and start growing. The farm enjoys massive community support originating from its volunteer base. Farming keeps Taylor calm and happy and has the added benefit of fulfilling his needs for food and accommodations. In the future, Taylor wants to work as a consultant extending his experience to multiple farms, especially in communities where access to fresh food is lacking.
“Once a day, I have people honk or drive by and say thank you. I’ve even been out and heard people talking about how cool it is and how good it looks. And just being able to give all the food away for free, that’s been really awesome.”
