Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. G.O.A.L.S.

As a part of the Honors Program at The Ohio State University, I am constantly reminded of its capacity to make me a more well-rounded student and individual from the G.O.A.L.S. statement.

Global Awareness:

As a part of my curriculum, I will attempt to gain a greater sense of global awareness in a multitude of ways.  As a history major, I have the opportunity to take courses that will offer a unique perspective on the diversity of past events, places, and people.  In this manner, I can apply this knowledge to current situations to both better understand the causes and effects of events across the world, and I can gain an understanding for the vastly different approaches for life that come from different areas of the world.  In addition, I would very much enjoy the opportunity to study abroad at some point in my college career.  This experience would open up new doors to fully immerse myself in another culture and fully develop an appreciation for the diversity of the world.

Original Inquiry:

Within the history major, there is much weight placed on individual research and creative projects for students to fully explore their boundaries and their interests.  It is within the confines of this major that I will satisfy this requirement.  In addition, I will actively seek out ways in which I can work with the research process independently through in-class opportunities and assignments.  With this combination of opportunities, I have no doubt that I will be able to gather worthwhile experience when it comes to original inquiry.

Academic Enrichment:

With the various honors courses available to me, I will encourage myself to pursue a rigorous class schedule and fully challenge myself academically. In doing so, I hope to take advantage of challenging course work that will assist me in maturing and growing both inside and outside of the classroom.  As an advantage of these rigorous courses, I will be in the position to take advantage of smaller classes that allow for more interaction with my professors and instructors.

Leadership Development:

As an individual, I have always sought to actively engage with whatever I am involved in through serving in leadership positions. As an Honors Student at Ohio State, I have already applied for and been accepted to the First-Year Leadership Initiative: a program designed to actively display opportunities for leadership to First-Year students.  This program also assists in developing the necessary skills for successful leadership.  Through this program, I can take necessary lessons in leadership to the classroom and other activities I am involved in.

Service Engagement:

As an active member community, I hope to be able to take advantage of various opportunities for service that will arise.  In the FYLI program, there is an emphasis also placed on ways for students to become involved within service opportunities for both the Ohio State community and the Columbus community.  In doing so, I hope to become a more well-rounded individual and student.

Career

Artifacts

[Artifacts are the items you consider to be representative of your academic interests and achievements. For each entry, include both an artifact and a detailed annotation.  An annotation includes both a description of the artifact and a reflection on why it is important to you, what you learned, and what it means for your next steps.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. About Me

I am a first year student coming to Ohio State from Knoxville, Tennessee, and I am currently a double-major in history and economics.  I consider myself an avid reader of history and sports.  When not playing school, I enjoy playing basketball with friends and updating my fantasy football team.  In the future, I hope to attend law school and become a federal prosecutor.
