About Me

Welcome!

My name is Bharath Ramini, and I am a recent high school graduate continuing my education to pursue a career in medicine. Currently, I am interested in becoming a physician, so I plan to participate in a pre-medicine track at The Ohio State University, so that I can be prepared for medical school.

Many of my experiences during my short journey in high school have influenced me to develop a unique perspective towards education. I’ve obtained a great passion for learning, and come to revere the fundamental role that it plays in the development of our society. More importantly however, I’ve discovered that the application of knowledge acquired is just as essential as my understanding of it. After all, it is only through the direct integration of knowledge to problems that we can derive solutions.Specifically, this philosophy has appeared most integral in service engagement to me, and one of the strongest examples of my service engagement has been in working toward passing a bill through the state senate.

In the future, I hope to improve my ability to effectively apply knowledge in meaningful ways to help my community, and I think college offers many excellent opportunities which would allow me to do so. Whether it be through my involvement in political advocacy for the general welfare of our communities,  participating in research to further our current understanding of science, or even play leading roles in clubs focused on social service, I will strive to contribute my skills, while also improving myself in the process.

Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. G.O.A.L.S.

As a scholar, not only would I serve to uphold the service engagement aspect of the G.O.A.L.S., but I would also strive to excel in global awareness, original inquiry, academic enrichment, and leadership development in my major. Specifically, I could do so by integrating my knowledge and original research from my molecular genetics major to further current knowledge in scientific fields. Here, I would apply my knowledge to satisfy all facets of the G.O.A.L.S. in an area of special interest to my major, and consequentially express my capability as a scholar.

Career

Artifacts

As part of a project focused on learning about legislation in our government class, one of our teachers introduced us to her eleven year old son, Matthew, and explained how he faced difficulties because many public facilities could not accommodate the disabilities he lived with. My classmates and I were moved by the hardships Matthew faced, and were motivated to help him. By applying our legal knowledge, we worked towards implementing an amendment in the American Disabilities Act to create “Matthew’s Bill”, promoting a greater welfare for the community living with disabilities in Ohio.  During this process we focused on advocacy for the bill by contacting political representatives such as Senator Lehner, special interest groups, and local news stations.  Additionally, we organized a school rally and created a website to inform the community about the bill.  It was an empowering experience, because it showed me that my perseverance alongside application of legal knowledge could truly make a difference in people’s lives.
