Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness:   I’ve always been a strong believer that the best learning stems from experience. The ability to experience the things you learn in class is invaluable, and in my opinion the best way to reinforce learning is to apply  it to the real world. I would love to get involved in a study/volunteer abroad program, particularly in Africa. Understanding third world medicine, and medicine on a global scale is something I’m very passionate about. I believe that traveling abroad to enrich my understanding would be the best way for me to become more globally aware.

Original Inquiry: Research is something I would love to get involved in, particularly research from the neuroscience or oncology department here at OSU. Research encourages original thought and a deeper, hands-on understanding of a specific issue. After learning more about the different grants and opportunities available I would definitely like to pursue an independent research project.

Academic Enrichment: As a Neuroscience major, I definitely am interested in learning about the deep intricacies of the brain in relation to the human body. However, I feel that it is so important to take advantage of the diverse classes offered at OSU. I am looking forward to taking classes about philosophy, African relations, and pursue a business minor as well. I’m confident that the range of classes I plan on taking not only will prepare me for medical school, but also help me become much more aware of the world I live in.

Leadership Development: Developing leadership skills are imperative for accomplishing great things as a student. I hope to broaden my leadership skills through obtaining executive board positions in service oriented clubs. I also would like to join a professional fraternity to develop interpersonal skills.

Service Engagement: Since high school, service has been something that is very important to me. I hope to be heavily involved in service based organizations at OSU such as global health initiative, and also volunteer at nationwide children’s hospital. I think there’s a lot to be learned about yourself just through the service of others and I’m excited to grow as a person that way. I am determined to also travel abroad and gain knowledge about healthcare disparities across the world, and ultimately aid in their reformation in my time at OSU.
