Concept Mapping

When pegged with the task of concept mapping the three dimensions of planning and how they impact the wellness and vitality of a city, many thoughts came to mind. I began to outline what I wanted to include on the map. I wanted to keep the map simplistic and somewhat organized, with clear paths and colors for each dimensions. I chose to stick with 2-3 thoughts for each dimension on the map. These all are very important to consider when planning in each dimension, but also planning in general. All three dimensions, transportation, urban design, and the natural environment, interact with one another, represented by the dashed lines. The color also stays consistent throughout each dimension of planning.

The efficiency and the sustainability of each category are important keys that link to other categories. Sustainability must be established in all three for a community to be healthy. Also, making sure that no specific group of people is left out tends to be very important as well. If this occurs, there tends to be issues in all of the dimensions of planning. Without equality for all people, it is impossible to create a cohesive city that functions properly and fulfills the needs of the citizens.

In the city that I have built in Cities:Skylines (simulation), all people have access to public transportation. This transportation circulates throughout the entire city. In my city, we also try to use more renewable energy sources to create a more sustainable city. The industrial district of the city is located away from residents so that all communities have clean air and water to consume. The different districts are different ages, but they all also have access to resources such as local schools and fire departments to equally serve all parts of the city. The concept map is a direct reflection of my simulated city in the game.
