Welcome to my Honors & Scholars e-Portfolio

Welcome! My name is Erin Raffenberg and I am a freshman at The Ohio State University. I am currently majoring in mechanical engineering and I am in the Humanitarian Engineering Scholars Program. In my free time I enjoy seeing my friends and participating in community service. I spend a majority of my time outdoors and with people; I love to go on adventures! Also, I enjoy being creative and doing little art projects, like scrapbooking.

Year in Review

One of my favorite extracurricular activities this past year was theater. I gained a large amount of my leadership skills from being a Crew Head for Costumes and Makeup Crew. I also gained leadership experience through my job as a server assistant at Dewey’s Pizza. One of my proudest moments was when I got accepted to Ohio State University. I was very excited to begin this next chapter of my life. Here, I have been academically challenged, and I have had many great opportunities. I enjoy being a part of the Humanitarian Engineering Scholars Program and participating in community service. Additionally, I am proud that I was offered a Co-op position with GE Aviation for this upcoming summer. I am excited to see what my future holds!

Artifacts

My first artifact is my Ohio State build-a-bear. This bear was given to me for my birthday last year from a very special person. Not only does it make me think of him, but it also reminds me to stay positive everyday. I was very proud to be accepted into the engineering program at The Ohio State University. This bear represents all of my academic accomplishments and my determination. I am determined to get accepted into Mechanical Engineering even though it is a very competitive major here. When I set a goal for myself, I do not give up until it is reached. When I go to bed each night, this bear sits on my bed, and reminds me of how far I have come academically. It makes me think of how proud I am to be an Ohio State Buckeye and of the great people I have in my life.

My second artifact is a jewelry box that my parents gave me for my high school graduation. The top of the box reads “Erin. Dream, Believe, Achieve, Succeed. Congratulations!” This box is important to me because it reminds me of the effort I put into my academics. It reminds me that I should stay dedicated to my goals and that anything is possible. It sits on my desk here at school, and every time I see it, I think of my parents. I am very thankful for my parents and I would not be where I am today without them. They push me to succeed in school and extracurricular activities. My parents are my role models and this box serves as a reminder to strive to make them proud each day.
