A Review on Technologies
The technologies mentioned throughout this class have been a roller coaster for me. They were truly eye opening to what resources we have and how to best take advantage of them. Some were boring yes, but at the end of the day beneficial to my overall learning experience. Technologies I found in this class will help me later down the road and I’m glad I had access to them so early on. Listed below are my top 3 technologies we used throughout the semester:
I was scared to use Trello at first because I’m a fairly shy person and I tend to stutter. On Trello we were assigned to post at least three videos and interact with our classmates. After running through the recording a time or two, I got comfortable enough to use the app. I also liked how there were features that let you narrate and show diagrams, displays or writings at the same time.
There were several digital note taking tools mentioned such as OneNote, EverNote, and GoogleKeep. These are all useful tools as they serve as an online notebook and folder for anything you may need to keep organized and digital. I personally use Notability which is a note keeping app that allows you to write notes and import notes. It also has features such as highlighting and bolding which are helpful.
This website is really useful and before this class I didn’t know it existed. I will definitely been using this in my upcoming classes for projects and whatnot. It’s really nice, has multiple settings and is free.
Reflection on Procrastination
This is a link to my reflection paper for week three about procrastination. I tend to lean on my procrastination and say that it’s not my fault. After the readings in week three, I know I can control my procrastination and know I need to take responsibility.
Procrastination: Don’t be Late
The Real Take Away~ ESLTech 2011
This post is for the three main ideas I learned from this class, although I’d like to say that the overall learning was better than initially expected.
1. Procrastination.
I think the biggest take away from this class was the week we had to learn about procrastination. It hit home for me, especially because I was already procrastinating in this class. I appreciated how Prof. Mitchell worked with me and I also now understand that I need to do better with my self-discipline. Especially in an online class. I like online classes and I think being able to have some more self- discipline will help me further my success. Reading through the sources, I had to stop and reflect constantly because I related so much to what the sources were stating.
2. You Are Not Alone in Online Learning.
My previous experiences in online learning led me to believe that online learning is like sticking yourself in a dark closet, small and isolated. Through this class I learned that this is not always the case. The assignment on Trello was my favorite one because we were actually able to connect a face and a voice to our classmates. It made me more confident in my work and my opinions because I knew there were people on the other end. If that makes sense. I really enjoyed that assignment.
3. Reflections Are Not Just Assignments.
I really looked forward to writing my reflection papers and planning them out because it really made me think about what I was learning and how it all connected and all the big take aways. Most classes, especially in high school (I’m a first year so I don’t have much college experience) expect you to “plug and chug” the information you “learn.” I really liked how Professor Mitchell worked reflections into the syllabus because I found it very beneficial.
Overall,
I took pleasure in taking this class and the freedoms it offered. I have already recommended this class to friends and I will continue to. The information is really helpful as a first year college student and I think more people should be taking it. In addition to that, I think the workload was reasonable and wasn’t so overwhelming as other classes can get.
