G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness:

This goal represents a crucial aspect in all well rounded students, which is having obviously a “global awareness.” On a deeper level I feel that being diverse and knowledgable in various cultures and traditions can translate into an interconnectedness between educational subjects as well as real life situations. I plan to cultivate an appreciation for cultures such as Italian and Italian-American cultures through, hopefully, studying abroad and possibly minoring in Italian.

Original Inquiry:

I find that research is a process that can be engaging on various levels. Whether you are sharing your own personal research, participating or learning about another persons research, or just completing creative works, a lot can be gained. Any research opens up a wide area in which creativity and curiosity thrives in. Personally, contributions to research that I personally have are generally focused around pediatrics-adolescents and in the medicinal field. I hope to find research in this area regarding the link between physical activity and neurological functions.

Academic Enrichment:

Taking rigorous coursework beyond the curriculum’s requirements is something I greatly look forward to participating in. I have not yet determined which GE courses I have chosen, however, I am looking to connect my classes into something I am very passionate about. I am on the university’s varsity dance team, and I hope to be taking the English- Dance Honors course at some point within my four years. I find that if I can connect my GE classes to topics I feel super interested or passionate about it will make the learning aspect seem less like a requirement and more of a pass-time. Due to my Italian heritage, I have been extremely invested in Italian culture. I find that a minor in Italian may be a good fit for myself and I am interested in learning even more about the culture beyond just the language. I am committed to taking rigorous coursework that will not only challenge me, but make me well rounded in areas beyond just Neuroscience or Pre-Med.

Leadership Development:

Honors students must have skills beyond the classroom, which can be found in extracurriculars. As stated above, I am on the university’s Varsity Dance Team which is a major time commitment as well as physical commitment. My participation in this team so far has shaped me into a respectable member of society. Not only am I able to participate in my favorite sport, I am also able to make connections with alumni, well respected university leaders, etc. The team demands excellence in all aspects whether that be dance, school, social, professional, and with the help of their resources, it is truly possible to be excellent in all of those areas as well as being a D1 student athlete.

Service Engagement:

Service is the last but also one of the most important commitments of an Honors student. Activities that are short term as well as long term that provide service to the community are extremely rewarding. I plan to volunteer both clinically as well as non-clinically during my next four years at OSU. I am very interested in the Nationwide Children’s Hospital volunteer opportunities as well as clinical hours at the Department of Neuroscience at Columbia, near my hometown, NJ. I hope to also continue volunteering at a day care for children who are living under the poverty line in Southern New Jersey, whose parents cannot afford to have someone take care of their kids while they are at work.
