1. Community Water Fluoridation (CWF):
- Implemented at a community-wide level, water fluoridation reaches multiple populations of people across the United States
- This is an excellent way to provide an essential oral health benefit to the largest at-risk groups within a city population
- City water is a commodity which is utilized by persons of multiple socioeconomic classes, including those who cannot afford expensive dental treatments
- An excellent low cost way to directly reach low-income at-risk groups within a community
- According to the CDC, 74.6% of people in the U.S. receiving water from community water systems are receiving fluoridated water
- Ohio ranked eleventh among all fifty states having 92.2% of its population receiving fluoridated water
2. Coordinated School Health Programs:
- Implemented at the school level, thus reaching children enrolled in schools
- This intervention is holistically intervening in the child’s dental hygiene from 8 different points
3. Additional Programs:
- These programs are effectively reaching low-income and minority populations which have the highest risk of nutritional deficiencies and low access to adequate dental care
