In partnership with the Delaware Public Health District, a billboard campaign amplifies the stories of Project DREAMS students and their sense of well-being and belonging. Belonging can have a significant impact on health. When people feel a sense of belonging—whether to a community, social group, or even within their own family—it can contribute positively to their overall health.
Research suggests that social connections and a sense of belonging are associated with lower levels of stress, increased happiness, and improved mental health. On the other hand, feelings of social isolation or loneliness can have detrimental effects on both mental and physical health.
Belonging is important in creating inclusive communities where individuals from different racial and ethnic backgrounds can be seen, heard, and affirmed. When a community embraces everyone, it acknowledges and appreciates each individual’s unique perspectives, experiences, and identities.
