The only thing I ever heard when I told people I was living in Morrill was “I’m sorry.” This was very discouraging, but I am the hopeful type. When I entered, a scared little first year, I did see why everyone disliked it. It was old, the food was just ok, and it was a chaotic living with 12 girls. I was worried that I might not enjoy my time living in Morrill.
Now, as I leave, I can see that it is mostly hyperbole. Morrill Tower is a great place to live, with big rooms and lots of space to be by yourself, even in a quad. It so convenient to go down and get food in flip flops, even if there are four inches of snow on the ground. Not to mention that Morrill has made-to-order breakfast sandwiches, which are so delicious and amazing. The only downside is the walk, but I look at it as built-in exercise.
Most memorable were the people. In Morrill, you learn to share a relatively small amount of space with up to 12 people. There might be people from different states, with different lifestyles, or even from different countries. I learned a lot about others, but I also learned about how I differ from others. The hardest part was overcoming those differences. But, my suite had zero large problems throughout the year. We all worked hard to communicate with each other about what bothers us and how to be courteous.
I may not be living in Morrill next year, but I will miss it a little. I made some great memories and friends here, and it will always have a place in my heart. I will miss the people here. And the breakfast sandwiches.
