Artifacts

Artifact 1:

The thing pictured in my hand isn’t just a weird-looking dice. It’s actually a fidget cube, with each side having a different kind of movement. My personal favorite side is the one closest to the camera that has the metal ball and gears. I take my cube or a stress ball with me almost everywhere. Not necessarily because I get stressed, but because I’m just a fidgety person and I have to constantly be doing something with my hands. That’s why I chose engineering, because I love building and designing big hands-on projects. My cube also represents how I’m not just constantly moving, but moving forward as well. I’m still figuring out what I want to do once I graduate, but I’m learning more about myself one fidgety step at a time.

About Me

Hey all! My name is Jay Potavin and I’m from Cincinnati, OH. I’m currently studying Engineering undeclared, but right now I’m in between biomedical and mechanical engineering.

I’m between those two majors because after I graduate, I’ve thought about working with prosthetics and hospital equipment or wheelchairs and other mobility devices. I just want to design and create the type of equipment that can literally help people get back on their feet.

I was in DJ Club during high school and I got to program the light shows to go with the songs played at school dances. I was also in marching band in high school (as you can see by my picture). I love playing music and being able to be part of something bigger than myself. Here at OSU I currently play snare in Athletic Band, and I’m going to try out for TBDBITL next year! In my free time, I also like to draw and play video games. Some of my favorites are Pokemon and Skyrim.

I’m looking forward to getting the know the rest of the HES students this year!
