Fair Board’s decision to pursue the planning of a Jr. Fair – What does this mean?

What is Jr. Fair as it relates to 4-H?

With the announcement that our Fair Board plans to pursue the planning of a Jr. Fair, we wanted to make sure you all understood what that meant.

Jr. Fair consists of all the different 4-H projects that are either judged, displayed, shown, marketed etc. at the County Fair. This means every youth enrolled in Portage County 4-H could have the opportunity to showcase what they learned this year with their 4-H projects. We know things continue to evolve and change daily, so this could change. But what we do know, is we are very appreciative and supportive of our Fair Board for wanting to move forward with the possibility that we can help showcase all of your hard work this year!

Many, many more things will now have to be decided like, how are life skills (non-livestock/non-animal projects) going to be displayed? How will shows look? Will it be show and go, or will animals be there over a few days? Who will be allowed to go the fair to watch? How many days and what are the fair dates?

We understand that sometimes making a decision like this brings up a hundred other questions, but just know that we will work very closely with the Fair Board and 4-H committees and appreciate their support of 4-H and the Jr. Fair!

Please continue to be patient and show grace during this time. We will let you know more information as soon as we can.
