Impact on the World

Many different people and companies use the coral reefs around the world to make money and further their businesses.  Coral reefs are home to hundreds of different fish species that are caught and sold to restaurants.  Many businesses and companies rely on the coral reefs to make money, but they are also part of the main problem for destroying the reefs.  The amount of people that the businesses attract are causing the coral reefs to decay more rapidly.

If the coral reefs are destroyed, the economy of the cities that rely on them will face a massive threat.  Businesses now, that are over using the coral reefs, are only causing the reefs to die quicker than they already are.  The Florida Keys coral reef provides Florida’s costal economy with 2.7 billion dollars in sales (Environmental and Energy, n.d.).  Monroe county, which includes Key West, brought in 71.2 million dollars or 17.3 million pounds of seafood for the county in 2015 (Environmental and Energy, n.d.).  Without the Keys’ coral reef. the amount of seafood that would be available would decrease significantly.
