Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. G.O.A.L.S.

  • Global Awareness: By the time I finish my time at OSU, I plan to study abroad in Europe to gain a better sense of political influence in other countries.
  • Original Inquiry: Currently, I am very interested about the influence of political views based on the region of where people grew up and how accepting they are of opposing beliefs. I would like to further look into this subject by the time I graduate.
  • Academic Enrichment: For this year, I would like to make the Dean’s List for both semesters. This will hopefully allow me to apply to the Honors program and be a part of that.
  • Leadership Development: By the end of this year, I want to be able to develop my abilities to lead a productive discussion in my scholars program.
  • Service Engagement: By the end of my undergraduate career, I would like to go on a service trip to help communities outside of my own. Having been on mission trips in the past, this is something I am passionate about.

Career

[“Career” is where you can collect information about your experiences and skills that will apply to your future career.  Like your resume, this is information that will evolve over time and should be continually updated.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. Mentor Interview: I interviewed my peer mentor, Debbie. She is from Long Island, NY. As of now, she is a Political Science major and intends to go to Law School. She does not yet know what type of law she wants to study, but knows it is what she wants to do. With this being her second year in PSL, I asked her about events that we would be missing out on within the organization. She told me about the long ice cream sundae that they did in the hall in past years and how everyone hung out in the common area quite often. It seems to me that PSL is tight-knit regardless of the year or the stance of the world. Talking to my mentor really helped me solidify how I feel about the people and friendships that I will make in my Scholars journey.

About Me

My name is Sydney Pollard. I am currently a freshman with the intended major of Political Science. Also, I am on the Pre-Law track. In the future, I intend to go to law school and hopefully become an Agricultural Lawyer. Being from a rural town in Ohio, I want to understand what goes into agricultural industry, as well as the politics that are behind it. I was involved in my school’s FFA program for all 4 years and the idea of furthering my education within agriculture is very interesting to me.
