G.O.A.L.S.

  • Global Awareness: I have always loved traveling because I love learning about the different cultures in our world as well as expanding my perspective. I hope to study abroad one semester or one summer during my time at Ohio State because it will not only be a fun experience, but also an enlightening one that will teach me a lot and help me grow as a person. Many of the GE courses I plan to take also deal with other cultures and regions, which will help me increase my global awareness. Developing a global perspective starts from an open mind and my broad mindset and my aim to increase my global awareness will get me started.
  • Original Inquiry: As a neuroscience major, I have investigated original inquiries a multitude of times. I am currently taking Biology 1113 and Chemistry 1210, which both have a lab component to them. I weekly perform experiments in both classes, investigating a new subject each time, and I write lab reports for each laboratory experiment I perform, which lets me fully immerse myself in the topic at hand. I plan to soon start researching in a field I thoroughly enjoy because researching interests me, while also helping me extend my critical thinking skills.
  • Academic Enrichment: Academic enrichment has and will always be one of my priorities. I chose to major in Neuroscience because I know it’ll continuously interest me while increasing my knowledge in various areas, as it has to deal with various subjects. I chose to minor in philosophy because it’ll help me grow as a person, as well as develop essential critical thinking skills that will help me in every step of my life. I have chosen GE courses that will either help me go forward with my future aspirations, help me with my minor, or help me further my varied interests. I plan for most of these to be upper-level classes or honors classes because then, I will constantly be challenging myself. The amount of hard work I am putting into my difficult curriculum will not only help me succeed in classes but also in my future endeavors because I will know that I can always make it through my hardships.
  • Leadership Development: The clubs I am currently involved with are A Kid Again, Smiles with Style, Project Sunshine, and Alpha Phi Omega. By immersing myself in these clubs and valuing them, I am on the path to becoming a leader. Actively putting forth ideas and being heavily involved in them will help me grow slowly to become a leader in the club and officially a leader one day. The most important part of being a leader is being a servant leader and that can only be achieved after forming a community with the members and gaining a complete understanding of a club. By becoming a servant leader, I will not only succeed in my leadership roles but also with my personal and career goals. I would have the ability to lead when needed while being a compassionate individual at all times, which are both important characteristics that will always help me succeed in various parts of my life. All my involvements will constantly help me better my life because I will gain the ability to form a solid balance with a multitude of priorities, meaning I would also have time to keep on growing as a person and intellectually.
  • Service Engagement: There is no feeling that comes close to the lasting happiness that stems from helping others. For this reason, I plan to always volunteer and service engagement will always be significant to me. Currently, I constantly pick up one-time volunteering opportunities but I haven’t yet started ongoing volunteering at any places. I didn’t start ongoing volunteering this semester because I knew that I first needed time to adjust to college and this new step in my life. However, I do plan to start ongoing volunteering at the hospital and a homeless shelter next semester as both are incredibly significant to me. I also just recently rushed a service fraternity, called Alpha Phi Omega, and I engage in community volunteering through that as well.
