My First Week at OSU

Well, I was an OSU Welcome Leader, so it’s now technically been my first week and a half at OSU. When I first arrived on campus for my move-in, there was a long traffic jam that led all the way through campus. Seeing all the cars made me a bit nervous, because there were so many! Then my dad, who works at OSU, said: “Just imagine: only a third of the people arrive on campus today. You get to move in the rest!” When he said that I actually wondered if I had made the right decision to come to Ohio State, because I thought I wouldn’t be able to make my mark on the world when there were that many people who were just as good, if not better than me, going to the same college campus. My mindset changed back to confidence, however, when I started actually moving into my dorm. I met my hall director and my RA shortly after arriving at Baker West, and having conversations with them has done nothing but reinforce my thoughts that prompted me to go to OSU. I was one of the first people in my hall-even on the OWL move in day- and I got to adapt faster to the baking heat of Baker West. That week, all of the OWLS on my floor bonded with each other over being Arts Scholars, being OSU Freshman, and being slowly cooked in our dorm. The OWL week was probably the best decision I could have made for moving in because the OWLs got lost around campus before the other students arrived, so we were able to familiarize ourselves with the campus and with each other. That further enabled us to help the incoming Freshman that moved in after we did. The first official week with everyone on campus helped me get used to my schedule and helped me set a new routine. Sometimes getting to my classes proved difficult because of being back-to-back, but they helped me learn even more shortcuts to get around a big campus quickly. I’ve always been good at living self-sufficiently, and going to college has helped me challenge this skill and develop it as well. So far, I’m loving the challenges of each of my classes and am proud to have decided on being a Buckeye.
