Farm to Fork Competitions Expanded for 2023

Market Lamb and Market Goat Farm to Fork competitions have been added for the 2023 Pike County Fair, in addition to the Market Hog Farm to Fork contest.  The Farm to Fork competitions provide youth with real-world experiences in carcass quality, yield, and value.  If an exhibitor wishes to participate in the Farm to Fork competition for their market species, they must indicate that on their animal tag-in form at the May 6 tag-in day at the fairgrounds. This is the only time entries will be received.  There are 10 spots available for market lambs, 1o spots for market goats, and 20 spots available for market hogs.   If more entries are received than there are spots available, participants will be selected by a random drawing to fill the spots.

Farm to Fork market animals will show in their regular classes at the Pike County Fair and the exhibitor will go through the Junior Fair Sale to receive sale ring premium.  They will NOT receive the stockyard bid; rather, it is the responsibility of the participant to market the meat from the animal or use for home consumption.

All animals entered in the Farm to Fork contest are terminal and will be trucked to Just Meats for harvest. It is the responsibility of all Farm to Fork exhibitors to pay all processing fees for their animals.

A date will be established to view carcasses with a meats specialist and learn how dressing percent, yield grade, and quality grade are determined.

Prizes will be awarded based on carcass value.
