Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness:
I will fulfill the global awareness requirement by looking into studying abroad as well as meeting people who come from different backgrounds. I’m planning to continue attending meetings for the Pan-Asian Mental Wellness Association (PMWA) as well as attend more of the global engagement nights in order to expand my view of different cultures and become exposed to the thoughts and ideas of others who have different experiences, cultures, and ways of life.

Original Inquiry:
I’m planning on getting involved in research as well as creative productions in order to fulfill the original inquiry requirement. I hope to get involved in musicals as a pit orchestra member in the coming semesters and am currently looking into research options around campus for undergraduates. I will also engage in in-class scholarly endeavors through advanced course work, discussing intellectual topics with my peers and becoming informed of problems I didn’t previously know about, different perspectives on those problems, and work on possible solutions with those around me.

Academic Enrichment:
I currently don’t have a major picked out, but I plan on pursuing academic excellence through rigorous coursework that matches my interests and will hopefully point me in the right direction. I hope to include a minor in psychology, visual arts, anthropology, or something else that I haven’t yet discovered, but will likely wait to add that on until after I decide on a major. I selected my current GE courses with fulfilling BS degree requirements in mind as most GE courses that fulfill a BS requirement also work for a BA (but not necessarily the other way around). The curriculum I have chosen includes high level psychology and english courses as well as calculus, which hopefully demonstrates my commitment to excellence in the pursuit for an education. These courses will prepare me for future high level courses along the same paths of study and provide the prerequisite knowledge that I will need in order to successfully complete more complex courses in the future.

Leadership Development:
I am involved in class activities that involve aspects of leadership development. For example, I am learning how to work together more effectively with my peers through group projects and am becoming more apt at balancing involvement with cooperation. I’m currently looking into different clubs to find one that I’m passionate about, and may try to run for a leadership position such as vice president or treasurer once I do so. I hope to participate in more activities around campus as I adjust to college life, and continue developing leadership skills that will help me succeed in my classes, career, and life in general.

Service Engagement:
I hope to become involved in clubs that engage in community service, such as the Ducks Unlimited club (which benefits waterfowl and conservation efforts) or Act!on Social Change (which is involved in community activism). I also plan on looking into the possibility of taking a service-learning course, which has community service built into the curriculum, and will be keeping an eye out for volunteerism events and fundraisers that I can get involved with around campus and around Columbus in general.

Artifacts

[Artifacts are the items you consider to be representative of your academic interests and achievements. For each entry, include both an artifact and a detailed annotation.  An annotation includes both a description of the artifact and a reflection on why it is important to you, what you learned, and what it means for your next steps.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. About Me

Hello! My name is LeAnn Pieri and I am a psychology major from Buffalo, NY. I’m very interested in abnormal psychology, literature, visual arts, and helping others. I aspire to improve my study techniques and time management skills, get involved in research, and figure out what I want to do with my life. I enjoy reading, watching Netflix (especially Criminal Minds, Bones, and foreign horror movies), and scrolling endlessly into the void of the internet. I also love listening to all types of music and am always looking for more recommendations. I’m excited to see what the future has in store and hope to find a path to travel along that leads to success, fulfillment, and stability 🙂
