Issue Selection

The issue I have decided to explore is the lack of composting done in America and on the Ohio State University campus. I have selected this issue mainly because not that many people in America (72% to be exact) choose to compost, though composting has many benefits that contributes towards the environment. The other issue I considered exploring was recycling, however, recycling which was a bigger issue in the past that has already been taken care of for the most part. Even though there are still a few holes that could be filled in when it comes to the knowledge of recycling, which is what I would have explored and discussed, there is a much bigger problem with composting. This is supported by the fact that homes in the United States are provided with recycling services along with the fact that there are many recycling bins placed all around campus today. However, no one can say the same for composting and this is what mainly impacted me in making my final decision. What I believe I’ll need in order to effectively explore my issue, is the city and state regulations/policies for waste and recycling control. One challenge I see myself encountering is not effectively getting through to the people who have the power to change the policies in both the city and on campus. Another issue I could encounter is the lack of cooperation or response from the people who I choose to reach out to in order to start acting on this issue.
