Columbus To-Do List Pt. 2

What I learned about Columbus is that is has a wide variety of things to offer for many different forms of lifestyles. What I mean by this is that Columbus has a highly level of diversity that is very inclusive of many interests. Even though I wasn’t able to explore and see all that Columbus has to offer, anyone can imply that you shall never be bored or not entertained while living here because there are so many places to go!

Due to this assignment (and my To-Do List choice), I was only limited to exploring the Short North, which even though has many locations in itself, yet still does not allow me to explore that majority of Columbus. As a result of this, I would want to explore downtown Columbus, or just to explore further away from OSU’s campus. As said before, I come from a very small city, so therefore I know that there is more within Columbus that I still haven’t been exposed to in my entire life.

For someone endeavoring in completing a similar assignment, I would recommend that they pick a couple of locations that may relate to their interests, but to also go to a few places that doesn’t. Reason I make this recommendation is because a person will limit themselves if they are not willing to go outside of their comfort zones and try new things. Also, when trying new things, a person may become accustomed to them to the point where it becomes a part of their identity.

My Locations:

 Olentangy Trail with Hounein A.

What I liked about visiting the Olentangy Trail was the outdoor component. I’ve always loved the outdoors growing up, so much so that my parents and I would go to a woodsy park close by our house and I would play for hours on end. There was a trail that surrounded the park which somewhat reminds me of the Olentagny Trail. So by visiting it, there was a feeling of being close to home. Something that Olentangy Trail offers is the presence of the Olentangy River which draws attention to animal wildlife. So this locations allows me to express the outdoor lover in me which also reminds me of home, and along the way, I may see a few animals.

Enjoying Sweets at Rocket Fizz More sweets at Rocket Fizz

Rocket Fizz was the second largest candy store I have been to so far. When I passed it by while visiting another location, I honestly thought that it was a store for children due to how it was advertising. However, after seeing adults inside, my friends and I decided to check it out. I’m glad we did because now we know where to visit whenever we have a sweet tooth. They had a variety of sweet treats and drinks, but what caught my attention the most was the very wide variety of flavors for taffy.

Hounein and I enjoying hot chocolate at Fox in the Snow

Surprisingly, Fox in the Snow is a very small café which has a very big fluctuating business. I went two different times and in both visits, there were many people inside. The second visit had so many people that my friend and I weren’t able to get a seat inside, so luckily the weather was promising that day and we sat outside. My most favorite part about this location was their hot chocolate in which they would draw a design on top with the heavy cream and also provide us with a very large homemade marshmallow. The only downside about this location is that building is quite small, so during the times when it is busy, it was really hard to find a seat.

My Vanilla and Oreo ice cream rollAlex’s (top left), Amanda’s (bottom left), and my ice cream rolls (the one missing a roll)

Out of all the locations I visited, Simply Rolled was my second favorite because of what they sold, which was rolled ice cream. I have always wanted to try rolled ice cream ever since I had seen it on the internet, so when I came across this location, it was literally a dream come true. There was not a single thing I could find wrong with this place whatsoever, the service and the ice cream was of high quality. What I think I really liked about this visit was the personalities of the staff which were so playful and humorous, which made me feel all the more comfortable about deciding to go back in the future.

The Northstar Café was by far my most favorite locations I visited for the entire duration of the assignment. Reasons I like this locations so much was the fact that you ordered and paid as soon as you walked through the door. Afterwards you’re able to choose wherever you wanted to sit in the café, which was well lit during the day but also during the night as well with dim lights that hung over the tables (I prefer to go during the evening when the lights are dimmed). The food was absolutely outstanding, and never took more than ten minutes for them to bring it to your table. And when you were finished you just got up and left, without worrying about waiting for the bill because it was already paid for. I liked this place so much that I went three different times and each time with someone different. But I highly recommend this location for whatever the occasion may be.
